SVO is all original except the color. The guy he bought it from didn’t like the original silver color so he painted it. Other than that, 100% original. Was originally a Florida car, Tampa area.

We use to pull the turbo e’s and pop 302’s in them back in the day. They came with the five lug, great brakes(for the time). Were just aching for the v8. Most don’t realize the reason Ford put the turbo 4’s in them was to get as close to a 50/50 weight as possible for handling. Very cool cars.

First one I’ve seen in person. It was super clean.

Most also don't realize that the SVO was way ahead of its time and offered many upgrades that did come to the base Mustang platform until years after...

It was the first with:
- 16" 5-lug rims
- 4-wheel discs
- adjustable fuel curve from inside the cabin
- quad shocks
- Koni adjustable suspension
- leather shift knob, boot and steering wheel
- aero headlamps (1985.5)
- Speedo that actually went to 140mph (but only ticked off to 85 for insurance reasons)
- Rear tails with the embossed black lines (carried into the 93 Cobra)
- Front seats with bolstering, lumbar support and the knee adjuster
- the fact it fluid keep up with it's GT counterpart was a feat in itself.
- dual bi-plane rear spoiler
- dual exhaust (on a 4cyl)

The only reason the SVO failed wasn't because it was a turbo-4, it was because Ford didn't propriety educate its sales force and the sales force didn't properly market the SVO.

These are great Mustangs to own and once you own one, you would be very surprised at its handling in stock form - great car to throw around on a road course. I've owned (2) of these in the past, an 84 Silver and a black 85.

You can get these cars for very good used pricing if you look hard enough... The ones that are in primo shape are fetching $15k-$25k... anything beyond is "in the wrapper".

I remember test driving one in '89 or '90. The car wasn't very old at the time, but I smelled burning oil after a short test drive. I suppose those cars got every bit as much abuse as the typical GT Mustang, but I'm not sure the turbo 4 cylinders held up to the abuse as well.

I owned several 80s and early 90s turbo cars and the technology left a lot to be desired back then, especially with regard to turbo lag and durability.

How did the quality of the color change look? Any idea if it was disassembled to do so. Single stage or base clear. That’s actually a pretty good price for that car. Would be really cool to Have. Wish I Had space.

The paint looked phenomenal. Like it was originally that color. If I recall correctly, it was disassembled and done properly. Part of the original owner’s son’s technical college project if I’m not getting my cars mixed up? I would have to ask him if it’s single stage or base clear. It was done back in the 90’s. But it is in fantastic shape, you can tell he takes good care of it.

It’s listed in a group on Facebook, happy to direct anyone to that page if interested.
