Well....we came as close as you can get.....the Roush Performance #61 Boss 302R Mustang piloted by Jack Roush Jr. and Billy Johnson made the podium at Indy with a 2nd place finish in the Grand Am Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge race.
A flawless pit stop for tires, fuel and a driver change, with Jack Jr. handing the car over to Billy, gave the #61 great track position and the car was fast! Billy practically wore out the back bumper of the leading BMW, but could just not find a safe way to get around it.....the race ended under another extended yellow/caution....limiting the chance for Billy to challenge and maybe pick up the coveted Indy win. The 2nd place podium showing moved the #61 team up to 9th in the point standings. With 4 races left in this years schedule, the team is fired up to redeem their status in the series, despite the restrictions put on the car by Grand Am. Next up is Road America in Wisconsin, August 10th. The Roush Mustangs have run well at Road America, with a hard fought battle last year between the Roush Mustang and the RumBum Porsche for the top spot on the podium.
The #51 Roush Boss 302R Mustang piloted by Joey Atterbury and Shelby Blackstock posted a 6th place finish. The #51 was running great, near the front when it was time for the green flag pit stop. But, because we have to share pit boxes with the ST cars, our pit box was occupied when we wanted to come to pit. Joey kept the car out for one more lap, to let the ST car clear the pit box. Just as he was coming to pit road, the caution came out...closing pit road. When it opened, Joey pitted for another fast and flawless stop for tires, fuel and driver change...handing the car over to Shelby Blackstock....but pitting under the continuing caution lost them a few positions and put them back a little deeper in the pack. Shelby drove a great race and kept the #51 in the top 10 for a 6th place finish, in a very fast and competitive field.
I'll post a few random photos from the hauler and practice on Thursday and Friday when I get back home.
