Hi all I'm a new Mustang owner and this is also my first car. I'm very new to cars and know nothing about mod so please be kind to me when I have noob questions :p.

I have the PP and a Manual tranny on my v8. The first mod I would like to do is the quad exhaust. But I have no experience and would probably have to have service people install it for me so does anyone know the total cost I'm looking at for quad roush exhaust with labor cost?

Also what are some must have mods that I should consider if I plan to take my car to the track and practice some drifting

Thanks for all the help:amen:

Do not pay a shop to put the exhaust on. Buy some ramps (they will come in handy for other stuff you put on the car and are a great investment), grab a friend and do it yourself. There are tons of install videos out there. While the exhaust is off throw in a Steeda shifter bracket. There might still be one in the classifieds.....and always search the classifieds before you buy something. Lots of people sell their exhausts because they don't like the noise, or they traded their car in. You can save a bunch of money on a part that basically does not go bad and you don't see anywy.

JMSPedalmax is a must have, eliminates throttle lag. Also some paint on the engine covers, it is easy and you can make those things look however you want.

Must have, resonator deete xpipe or hpipe. A good quality axle back if you want even louder pipes. Next step CAI of some type and a tune. Lots of options there.
Oh, and hood struts.

remove clutch spring, new transmission fluid (redline MTL, Royal Purple Synchromax, etc). Those are really easy to do and will make the manual a lot more fun. Get an MGW shifter if you want to go to the next level on the shifter.

Exhaust is so easy to do on this car, just need ramps or jack stands. To do the quad Roush though, you need to get the rear valence as well, CJ Pony parts has an install video on that.

my man here nailed it. A nice exhaust should be the first mod aside from window tint.

I agree--it's hard to argue against an exhaust for the first mod. The factory exhaust is simply way too quiet.

After that, it comes down to what you're looking for. Drive the car for a while, and make an assessment of what you think is lacking, or what you would like to change. Do you want more power? Get a cold air kit and a tune. Would you like to work on the suspension? Get some springs and sway bars.

Personally, I decided to work on the suspension after I got my exhaust (Borla S-Type catback), so I put on Eibach Sportlines and BMR sway bars. As far as power, I'm planning on waiting for the Ford Racing tune because it should be eligible for a warranty.

You'll have fun no matter what you choose, so enjoy the car!

The only must have for this car is an aftermarket exhaust. Everything else is tolerable. Depending on how aggressive you drive and your luck with the manual, perhaps a new shifter will be a must have.

My list of must haves are...
Exhaust
and MGW shifter.

I also consider wheel hop reduction a must have, but mainly due to predictability of the rearend and to help reduce potential damage caused by wheel hop. I am soon to install my Cradle lockout kit. Hopefully within the next week.

Oh yea, and unless you just don't want to do the work yourself, install the exhaust yourself. It is a really simple task any below average mechanic can do it with a set of ramps. The only thing that will stop anyone from being able to install an exhaust themselves, is someone with a physically limiting condition, lazy person, or perhaps someone who just doesn't want to put there own time into it. Other than that, seriously everyone is capable of installing an exhaust. Especially this exhaust as there is no special routing of the pipes. Its a straight install with nothing in the way.

Absolute first mod is window tint, and then a jlt air oil separator! Then it's whatever your wallet allows lol

Oh yea x100000 on the window tint, at least if you value your interior. I still need to get mine installed, I just haven't had the time to get it scheduled.

Oil separator isn't necessary at all IMO. It may collect oil and keep your intake a little cleaner but unless your having timing issues due to oil getting sucked into the intake, it's not necessary. That said, i will probably get one just because I like the idea of keeping the intake a little cleaner.

As for the JLT, it is a well made product and looks really nice. I almost bought one before I did research. Unless JLT updated their design, there are quite a few other companies that provide a product which collects noticeably more oil than the JLT.

This is all just my opinion, so take it for what you will. Before coming to the mustang world I had never heard of anyone putting an oil separator on a non direct injected engine. Even on DI engines, it only helped with carbon buildup a little.

Drifting? As in sideways, smoke, super turn angle drifting? If that's the plan you need high horse power and a steep turn angle. Mods will need to focused on suspension and a power adder. Oh and a ton of spare tires....

Otherwise just do the norm IHE - intake-headers-exhaust. Lower if you want a better look and handling.
