I went to do a fluid change and found that Ford has been adding a MT82 fluid modifier. It is not even mentioned in the owners manual. Not sure if it make any difference but if you use MC fluids you better be use this.

Is is listed in the owners manual in the specifications (XL-3 friction additive) and shop manuals calls for it only after replacement of synchros (but it does list it as well).

Whoa! I spent big bucks--well, about $100--for the BG synthetic, do I need to add this stuff, too? My '19 Bullitt is a little notchy sometimes, esp. shifting into third. Come to think of it, all the 4-5-6 speed manuals I've owned nibbled going into third; never figured out why.

The '19 owners manual does not show the fluid modifier, only XT-11-QDC for the MT-82. The Service Manual also only shows XT-11-QDC.

Yeah, saw then when I finally dug my OM out. Now, the question is, is it 'no longer needed' because they addressed the issues with the MT-82, or because it's included in the XT-11?

or because it's included in the XT-11
Main ingredients are: Phosphorodithioic acid, 68649-42-3 O,O-di-C1-14-alkyl esters, zinc salts.
Motorcraft® Dual Clutch Transmission Fluid XT-11-QDC is also called for in my 2017 OM.

No, you're fine to use just BG. The notchiness can be improved, but it will still be there no matter what you do. That notchiness exists in any MT-82 since 2011.

It's difficult to say if the D4 xmsn needs additive since there are some changes from previous models. The dual mass flywheel and the moving counterweight (right side of the xmsn) are the changes we know about but there are probably more. I plan to change my xmsn oil soon (with same XT-11) and will report if the xmsn seems to not work as well as with the factory fill. There is no cold weather here so I can't check for that.

It said it was for 2011-2018. I read some where that Ford had been using this on all MT82 transmissions from the factory. Just a look at the warning label, good god don`t spill any of this stuff or get it on you. Do not use friction modifier XL-3 in your trans.

I read somewhere that Ford discontinued their additive due to seal degradation so I initially switched to BG Syncroshift in my 2014 car....it worked OK but still notchy when cold!!:curse:

Switched again to Redline DCTF fluid and was the best in my 2014 car so I did the switch to Redline in my 2019 car and it is smoooooooth as silk....NO COMPLAINTS here!!:like::like:
