Royal purple:first:

Edit, just read the article, Yep that sounds like pretty much what he said!
makes me wonder what oil the others were running.
Nice! But is it low in calcium? :clap2:

Well... it was directly awesome!
Those Turbo engines had forged pistons too AFAIK.

We also have to see what happens when these engines get into the 50-100k mark, were more blow-by is likely to happen.

Well these motors supposedly have "high-strength forged steel" connecting rods lol

I think I am going to switch oils this time around with my new engine. I used Amsoil signature before. I also used it on my 2009 Nissan Maxima and that had some weird engine issues around 55k miles that nissan never really pinned down. I kept getting check engine light with that car and they could never resolve it. In between that car and the mustang I had a 2013 fusion titanium. I just used mobile one on that and had no issue with it until I traded it for the mustang at 46k miles.

Now i know Amsoil is supposed to be great, and most likely is, but just for the hell of it going to go in a different direction I think.

In regards to the oil comments, some of them are running Amsoil, which is very high (3,600-3900) in calcium. My Pennzoil Ultra Platinum usually tests in the 2,200-2,400 range. I just noticed the calcium of the Amsoil 5w30 Sig. Series this morning and found it to be one of, if not the highest, calcium concentrations in any motor oil.

Something else you want to look at is NOACK of an oil. Although the calcium on the PUP is moderate, the NOACK tests at 6.7-7.0 for me. That's great and so far only Red Line oil has a lower NOACK. Amsoil is usually around a 7.5, which is still very low. For reference, the allowable limit to pass oil test ratings is 15.

I've done a lot of reading and research about calcium in oil and it's relation to LSPI, and from what I've seen in research papers (SAE papers), the information would seem very plausible.

Now, I'm not saying the reason these engines have failed is because of oil, but it is a very interesting variable to add to the equation.

I'm actually running Pennzoil Ultra Platinum as well, had to order it on Amazon as I couldn't find it locally. I noticed an immediate improvement in gas mileage.

Doesn't look like I'll be switching to Amsoil.... Pennzoil Ultra Platinum from now on :D.

Quoted from Chevron LSPI Research site:

"On the lubricant side, the most noticeable impact has been from the detergent chemistry. Oils with higher concentrations of calcium, which is found in many detergent systems, have been shown to increase the frequency of LSPI. The exact chemistry of the detergent is less important to LSPI than the calcium content."

More and more papers are coming out that point to a strong correlation between calcium in oil and LSPI.

Also worth noting MotorCraft Full Synthetic has a low calcium content as well.

I think those who plan to push the motor on pump gas should invest in water/meth injection as a safety measure. I've seen factory motors stand up to tremendous abuse on water/meth injection first hand.

nice! when Ford does their stress tests I can only assume they use motorcraft full synthetic or a blend, I'll be doing the same (full synthetic) until she blows  and change every 5k of course

I had Mobil 1 in mine when it blew up. From now on I'm only paying the dealership to do the oil changes, not leaving them with any excuse to use if the motor blows again.
