Also, I will add if you lack upper body strength reverse is not an option. I have had some friends who tried it and even both hands couldn't put it into reverse so take that into account. My best advice would be to find a Shelby club near you and ask to try someone's shifter.
time to take your buddies out for some straight arm pull downs and pullovers! lol

you’re right though, I’ve known some that might not could do it...kinda extreme cases though.

it is a mix of internal rotation/horizontal adduction at the shoulder while using some scapular depressors. i do know many 80+ year olds that cannot complete this motion.

One of them is just skinny and just had back surgery and the others are women so lol. Its just stiff but its nice knowing that when you are shifting hard it wont go into reverse unless you are a complete ape.

I've had my MGW shifter for about four months. (2019 GT350). Agree with the above issues. Reverse is a PITA. I too also find myself sometimes being in 3rd at takeoff instead of 1st. You have to be sure to push hard to the left to hit 1st. It is a notchy shifter and a bit stiff. It has not smoothed out with time. It's accurate, however, once you get used to it. I just think it's not as smooth operating as should be expected.

It does loosen up after a while....give it a bit more time.

Interesting discussion. I've had mine for about three years now and it's either getting to feel normal or it's softened up just a bit. The thing is, when you're busy heading into a corner on a racetrack, the high spring weight makes it very hard to get the wrong gear. EVERY gear requires a distinctly different effort and motion - it's impossible to mix them up. You can't accidentally get 1st when you're aiming for 3rd, or 2nd when you're aiming for 4th. You can let the shifter center itself for a fraction of a second and then just push it or pull it into the gear you want. Works every time.

So, for the street, it might be overkill, but when you have to get the right gear every time and you don't have time to think about it, the MGW shines.

This is the thing that's making me seriously consider getting an MGW. I've only run into this issue at Willow Springs going from 5th to 4th and a few times I went into 6th instead. Completely ruined a few would-be-great laps. The stock shifter is REALLY good though.

I have the MGW shifter and can summarize my opinion like this: If you track your car it's totally worth it. Superior build quality over OEM, crisper shifts, and more solid engagement in every gear. If you don't track your car it's probably not worth it.

That's pretty succinct and accurate.
