Major improvement with MT82 fluid change

Just pulled the trigger and bought 4 quarts (as a lot) of Royal Purple. I'm aiming to have some free time to do the swap in a few weeks.

Hopefully that will tame down some of the notchiness I have, particularly on the 2-3 shift.

I'm running RP Synchromax in my MT82 and RP Maxgear 75w90 in the diff. And they both feel great. The notchiness when trans is cold is still there, but has been reduced. And it is much improved when warm. Shifts are extremely smooth when warm. Couldn't say I notice any difference in the diff performance. But wasn't expecting one either. Just did it at 1100 miles with the other fluids bc I believe in their products and I wanted it swapped after break-in. Same for the engine. Running RP HPS 5w20. And for everyone questioning why the Synchromax and 75w90 isn't warranty compliant is bc there is no minimum requirements listed in the user manual or secondary fluid for the MT82. And RP doesn't make a 75w85 only the 75w90 for the diff but that is what they recommend anyway and theirs has friction modifiers in it already. And the HPS engine oil isn't API licensed bc it exceeds the max allowable amount of phosphorus. Which is better for the engine but can lessen catalytic converter life. That's why OEMs have a cap on phosphorus with the current API. Since emissions warranties are extended. And I'm more concerned about running what is better for my modified drivetrain, and less concerned with Ford possibly finding out what fluids I'm running to try and deny a possible warranty claim.

Awesome! Doing clutch and half shafts now so I plan on switching both out to the ones you mentioned. I am currently running RP HPS 5w-20. Switching it out to RP 5w-30 once boosted.

How did it work?

Looks like the next free time I have to put the car up on stands and do the swap is Feb. 5. I bought 4 quarts of Royal Purple because I was able to buy it as a lot for the same price as 3 quarts, so at least I have some wiggle room.

I'll report back after the fact.

Just put in RP Synchromax last night. Very noticeable difference right off the bat.

Just changed to AMSOIL Synchromesh and made a instantly noticeable difference. Highly recommend changing it out.

Also just swapped mine this passed Saturday to Amsoil Synchromesh along with an MGW Shifter.
Holy world of difference! No more notchy cold mornings, and the shifter is just amazing by itself

How did you do the shifter install? Jack stands or a lift? Also how long did it take you?

I've watched the MGW video an it just looks like a PITA job......:(

Did it on jackstands. The install really wasnt that bad. I did however miss a key step in the video though, and it added on about an hour and a half to my install struggling with the shifter boot.
If it wasnt for that it really would've taken a couple hours by myself

I did the job today with the car level on jack stands. It took about an hour, though lots of that was fiddle-farting around. Only tools required were an 8mm Allen wrench and the bottle pump; all work was done from underneath.

Mine took all three quarts of Royal Purple Syncromax, and I gave it a few squirts from a fourth bottle just to be sure (though it didn't flow out the fill hole).

I wouldn't say the difference is night and day, but it IS a noticeable difference. The shifting action is much less notchy, and it's quicker to move between gears.

Ultimately for the $70 investment in the fluid and pump and the hour of my time, it was absolutely worth it.

Did my Tranny at 2500 miles and my diff at 5000 miles.
Car seems smoother and quieter with the RP fluids.

Not sure why some are scared about warranty issues... I don't think any Ford dealer is going to run an analysis on the fluid to determine its NOT a Ford approved fluid. All the fluids will darken with use and they will all have the same awful smell that all trans/diff fluids have..

Im about to due a Barton Shifter on my 15 gt and wanted to do all accompanying mods and fluid changes. I am going with RP synchromax but wanted to know what else I can waste my money on that should be done all at once. Thank you guys in advance for your inputs

I'd also do a driveshaft loop. Cheap insurance. If you haven't done exhaust or an AL driveshaft it would be a good time to as well.
