That’s all a complete crock of shxt. No installer is getting near any of my cars with a blade because they don’t have the equipment(to cheap to buy a plotter) or buy enough material to have access to the patterns. Xpel has the best patterns in the business but they don’t come for free. Even the best “custom installer” makes mistakes. I’ve painted literally thousands of cars. Blade cuts are right there with vehicles getting keyed in pain in the … to do a repair. I can’t even count how many cars I‘ve seen where some “custom installer” has left blade marks on the body of a car. A very good friend of mine does all my stuff. His shop is part of a high end body shop here. They have a brand new 911 in there now that the dealer sent the car to a ”custom installer” to try and make more on the backend of the ppf instsllation then paying him to do it. 1/2 the car is being detrimmed to be repainted because there‘s blade marks on the front end and quarters. It’s a 12-15k repair.
Your one anecdote doesn’t speak for the entire industry. So you can call it a “crock of shit” but that doesn’t make it fact.

It’s disingenuous to not awknowledge that the ppf industry doesn’t get a large proportion of hackey window tinters making the leap for a bigger pay check without the knowledge and experience and leaving a trail of bad installs. Most of it comes from dealers sending cars to whoevers come by and said you pay x now, I’ll do it for y.

Where did I say it never happens? I didn’t…so don’t put words in my posts that I didn’t say.

I've owned all of those through my lifetime. The C7 (Z06) had wheel issues. Cracked 2 rims in a year. WS6 is cool. You'll probably tire of its antiquity and emissions stinking up your garage. That leaves just one. 😉
Yeah, C7 wheel issues are fairly common. I’d probably hit up Terrance and get a set of Signature Wheels if I go the C7 route. The C7 is my favorite Vette and one of my favorite cars in general. And I actually prefer the GS to the Z06 (heresy to some I’m sure).

WS6 is more going back to my college days. Had an F body Camaro for a short time and always wanted the WS6. It’s a timeless design (to me anyway) and there’s a lot you can do with that platform. And their numbers are dwindling, so that one is more of a fear of missing out than anything else. But, the one I’m eyeing isn’t for sale yet and I’m not sure if the owner will actually let it go.

So that brings us to the 500. Every time I drive one it reminds me why I love it and why I want one. It’s one of those cars that’s so good right out of the gate, you don’t need to do anything to it (lighter wheels maybe on the non-CFTP but that’s it) IMO.

So that’s my conundrum, I just like too many different types of cars and not enough garage and wallet space for all of them at once. Probably more info than anyone wanted but that’s what’s running through my brain at the moment

Oh I get what you’re saying and yeah the wrap is easily solved. I’m personally not a fan of buying modded cars, I’d rather start from stock. And there’s plenty of stock examples out there that can be had.

Damn that hurts and you obviously know what you're talking about, Charlie. I have watched a film installer with a knife in hand numerous times in the past and I cringe every time I see it. The guy I've used in the past is an Xpel guy with a 72" plotter. (He upgraded from a 48" so he could do hoods which, as you know, are typically the largest patterns.)

But, he does use a knife sparingly but even Xpel patterns need it sometimes depending on the vehicle but it's rare for him.

Wrappers use knives all the time and no doubt cut paint as well but the wrap vinyl is so much more forgiving than PPF film and, easier to cut. Never looked up the thickness of wrap film but I think it has to be considerably thinner than PPF.

In any event, you are one lucky fella to have such a qualified film installer to do your vehicles. Unfortunately, not everyone is that fortunate and they wind up with issues but HS, $15g's?!

I’m not against an installer using a blade per se. Its necessary in places. Where I have a problem is an installer free handing a ppf piece across a quarter panel, hood, etc. The underside of a fender and such isn’t an issue. We all mistakes at times. The proper techniques and equipment(plotter you referenced for example) is what sets the pro’s apart from the others. Professionals in any trade or craft generally don’t cut corners on equipment. We’ve all hopefully learned from prior mistakes of what to do or not to do. On the 911 I was referencing, luckily the dealer(owner actually from what I was told) stepped in and said we’ll take care of it with no hesitation. The car will actually have a nicer finish then from the factory and it won’t be dinged by a carfax note. The 911 owner was actually really good about it as well. He understands stuff happens to. Here’s a pic of his original cobra they detailed for him. He actually drives this occassionally. Absolutely stunning car.

Added: I’m very fortunate my buddy does my stuff. Most times he’ll barely take what the material costs from me. I make a point to return the favors whenever I can. Firm believer in taking care of those that take care of me. Big believer in karma.

If they are doing full panels a blade should never come in contact with said panel. They should be wrapping the edges and the blade would be in the gaps between panels, not on the paint.

On the bold, too bad this didn't come to light last spring. It’s a car that, while 20+ years old and inferior to the newer cars in several ways, seems to still grab attention and it’s one that always catches my eye. There’s another one in addition to the one I’m eyeing that I see driving around every now and then. I seem to forget about it until I see it, then I’m like hot damn I need one.

A one owner car is such a rare find these days for a car that’s 20+ years old, definitely some self kicking when they come available and we pass on them for whatever reason. And whether it’s a car we really want or not 🤭

Car w the impossible to remove wrap, as predicted, is down $5k in advertised $$.
More leverage to go, as seller is negotiating only against himself so far. Wait till an actual GT500 buyer uses a lil savvy & strategy.... then the seller really drops his pants.

Some car enthusiasts understand what leverage looks like, when buying a car.
Like a wrap that is irrelevant to a cars value, unless your an armchair internet troll.

Everyone (above ☝) probably looks for fuzzy dice 🎲 🎲 hangin from the mirror to indicate to themselves a leverage opportunity has arrived.
