Like the suction cup idea
They work awesome….Just make sure to moisten with bottled water not saliva. Saliva has acid in it and you don’t want to leave permanent rings on the plastic.

Ah, that never crossed my mind. Thanks….. I‘m guessing beer would also be frowned upon

Very cool to see a local that actually tracks their Mach! I've had mine out to Mission Raceway, and had the exact same result as you had with the smoking brakes. The folks at Ford Performance recommend the Castrol SRF, as that's what they run in the Machs at the Mach 1 Track Attack. Would love to chat, I'd like to get my csr better setup for doing track days, and am planning on getting my license next year for time trials.

I think I'm going to limit my track days at Mission as this track is so heavy on the brakes. I'm going down to The Ridge this month for Friday the 18th. It would be good to have another Mach1 local there...
I did my race License through Speed Fanatics but haven't had the chance to race (not in the Mach1!) nor get in a time trial. But I have managed x11 track days so far this year. Next month Sept, I have booked for ORP. I might end this season at Mission on the 16th Oct with Velocity.

First track day in the M1. Short version, it was pretty great.

Longer version….
I chose Sonoma, because I have over 200 laps there and know the track well. (Or at least thought I did.) This was a different configuration than I’ve run, and couple different areas were a little tricky.

Car was pretty good. Struggled to get tire pressures right. Went out at 28.5, came back 37. Took 2 more pounds out, still back in at 37. Took another pound out, back in at 37.

Ambient temps kept rising all day, and I got scared to keep airing down warm tires. This cost me some time for sure, especially in the 4th session. Ambient was about 88, track got greasy, and I was catching the rear end quite a bit. (Thank god for the little bit of stability control track mode offers.)

I need to get way better manual shifting. Kept banging the hell out of the rev limiter.

Did have an instructor ride with me 2x and learned some faster ways around for sure. Was a little nervous running the car all the way to the edge of the curbing at times. (I’m much more comfortable running my crap bucket lemons car to the edge.)

Car did okay temp wise. Rear diff was fine, actually didn’t pay too much attention to it when I saw it was good after 2 sessions. Can’t monitor trans temps in a manual, but nothing felt weird, shifted smooth and crisp all day, clutch felt great.

CHT not bad sessions one and two. Got a little warm (223 observed high) session 3 and 4, but this was the hottest point in the day 83-88ish.)

Turning the heater on high, and running it through the defroster vents helped the temp come down a few degrees.)

I really rode high in the rpm range at times, and banged the rev limiter at least 2-3 times each session. I guarantee this was a contributing factor.

So, how fast could I go? Got a best lap of 2:00.69. I was disappointed as I thought I’d be banging out sub 2 min laps all day. There is a lot more in the car. I’m the problem at this point.

For the future.
Get a grip on tire temps.
Stop banging be rev limiter.
Use a little more of the track.

I have to say the Catalyst was a pretty good between sessions coach. (Thanks @IanKar)

I’ll have some pretty good video links in a few days. Good lap or two run with a GT350, GT500, and me…it was fun and we were bunched pretty good. (I’m a little more skilled than the 500 guy, but 350 guy was pretty quick.)

Hers a google drive link to photos if anyone is interested.

If anyone recognize the GT350 owner feel free to tag him or have him PM me, I can send him a couple photos and some video of his car.

My fastest lap from the day. Based on other Mustang lap times, I know there is more speed to be found with some better shifting and driving.

Very nice, thanks for sharing, what was the noise @ -22, tire squealing ?…. Also how well are the brakes holding up ?

I’m sure the noise is a little tire squealing but also could just be microphone background noise.

I was extremely impressed with the factory pads. Only once did I come into the paddock and smell brakes. (That was 4th session and hottest point of the day.)

No fade, no unpredictable grabbing or lack thereof. Very linear bite, and overall really good for a street/track pad.

I was surprised how easy it was to overwhelm the back brakes. Coming down into 12 which is the hardest braking zone 100+ to 30ish, you could feel the rear tires chattering under hard braking.

That could also be partly due to my struggles with tire pressure.

Still on factory brake fluid, right ?

1st time in the Mach1 on a track. I think you're being hard on yourself. This track also looks less forgiving with walls and embankments etc. The video is great and with the Garmin camera high up, you can't appreciate the 'chaos' properly. You are seriously going faster than the clip shows. When I look at my videos, it looks like I'm driving Miss Daisy.
Tire temps- I suppose it depends on your tires but I always set mine at 30 psi when hot. This was suggested by many at the track and checking my tires just after I come off, I set them between 30-33 psi & seems to work well for me. I bet there are many more seasoned persons on the forum who can advise better.
I was on the track this Friday and the Garmin proclip worked out great. I'll post my my video etc soon.

Was at The Ridge Raceway in WA this Friday. Nice dry day that got hot. 3rd time at The Ridge. First time I got a 02:09, the 2nd with similar conditions 01:58 and this time 01:55.61. So improving. With these humble improvements, I am finding the Mach1 pretty capable. I was hanging with and passing some of the Porches etc. The GT3's are still a challenge. Here's a Youtube clip of a lap hanging on with a Ferrari 488 and Porche GT4.

I don't and in hindsight, probable should.

Your video from the ridge is awesome. Your improvements give me hope I can get to where I want to be.
