Be very careful. The company doing mine they assured me of no issue and if they even had concern they should called me and I would have said not to do it and at the least have cut around the decal and left it as is. Instead it looks like crap and they told me to wait a week + to see if it goes away (it isn’t). They are going to try to remove it off the decal (cut around it) later this week or next but I warned them I’m not a happy camper and the replacement hood decal from Ford is 899. If it’s ruined I plan on having them pay for the decal replacement and looking for an absolute specialist recommended from the dealer to fix this fk up. Murphy’s law. Original pic and then after. The matte part and the mach1 lettering is what is screwed up.

I did PPF on my 2016 GT350 back in 2015 and I ended up kind of meh on it. Any exposed seams and you have to be super careful when you apply sealant or wax. And with the 3M Expel I used you are supposed to wax/seal it regularly. If you get it on the seams you will always see them. I really struggled with that and didn't like taping the seams before waxing, etc.

There were a few areas where the PPF lifted in tight corners as well.

It did save the car from a bad scrape from a door in a Walmart parking lot and preserved the paint after a few track outings and lots of road driving, so possibly it was worth the cost. I don't know if I got more for the car based on the PPF when I sold it or not.

Personally I decided to own cheaper cars and be a little less invested in trying to keep them nice. So, no PPF on my current GT or the Subarota.

That’s why my PPF guy would not touch the hood, I hate that for you.

Yeah I should have known better, some of these asshats need to err to caution. I think they wanted to be heroes and use it as an example to pump up their social media and instead they are looking as reputation suicide in my neighborhood. Thankfully the rest of what they did looks great but this to me is the visual show piece of the car. I will get it done right but to wait this long because I didn’t want to chip up the pain for this makes it even more miserable. I’ll just take a deep breath and know it can be replaced. I think of poor Tony who had some asshat total his car wrecking into him and this seems trivial.

Really hate to see when the odds finally catch up to someone. There is no worse work than rework. Having said that, with the right installer it will be nothing more than a tale to tell in no time. Good Luck with round two!

XPell regular over hood and front end
xpell stealth over the decal so it still looks like it does
Ceramic coating on top of everything

no clue of how it will hold up. will learn in a few years i guess :-/
What this guy says. And you're not taking it off in the future. Not without potentially ruining the decal. You can always replace the decals in the future anyway.

I agree with you. I actually sent Tony a message yesterday telling him I was glad to see him back in a Mach. Is he on the forum?

@davtpa We warned here several times that putting PPF on non-FJG stripe with rough surface doesn't work, it creates this bubbling. They should have removed it ASAP before it dried and cut around it. Best to cut around the glossy part of the stripe too, I have it cut only around matte part of the stripe and almost lost the Mach 1 logo on the stripe, it became invisible.

Quick update: miraculously they saved it and removed the PPF without any damage. The lighting stinks and I’m headed out of before 7am tomorrow so I can’t get a good picture with the garage lights but it’s good. Thank God and lesson learned.

My wife who happens to be my installer did a custom piece hood to keep my decals uncovered. We wrapped the whole car though as I went Matte Llumar. My entire car is wrapped (covered) and I have ceramic meant for matte on top, No marks or weird residues.

Looks fantastic.
How about the side stripes? Did your expert wife leave them uncovered? Or covered?
They are uncovered. I like the matte to gloss back to matte black.

I am sorry you went through this but any experience Installer would know that the matte part of that decal has a small texture that's going to trap moisture and water.
