I apologize in advance if this has been posted previously. For those that have had a PPF installed on the front half of their Mach 1 (hood) have you guys had the installer put PPF over the Mach one decal stripe on the hood? My concern is the PPF installed over the vinyl decal will be damaged when removing in the future. If the PPF installer cuts around the decal is there a way to protect the decal? Would a ceramic coating over a decal be safe?

ArmorShield IX ceramic went over the full decal with no issues 18 months later. I only ceramic'd the car, no ppf.

XPell regular over hood and front end
xpell stealth over the decal so it still looks like it does
Ceramic coating on top of everything

no clue of how it will hold up. will learn in a few years i guess :-/

Nice, thought about going that route as well instead of PPF

Nice, trial and error I guess! I was thinking of just ordering another full set of new decals from Ford for the Mach 1 for the future if anything were to happen to the decals!

Nice, I might go that route just have to keep doing research. Most of these companies have had no experience with doing work over decals and there products last so many years that it’s hard to really say what will happen to the decals after 10 years.

A ceramic coating will not protect you car from scratches and/or debris damage. Only PPF can do that. You have do decide what you are willing to accept.

For me it was PPF over the front clip and ”A” pillars and ceramic(pro stuff, the the spray detailer kind) over the entire car. 3 1/2 years later and the car looks brand new.

There is an expense to doing it the way I did but to me it was worth it.

PPF install over the decal works (and looks) quite well if you have an FJG color which seems to be using somewhat different decals than any other color.

The other color decals seems to use a different vinyl and most importantly a different color/technique for the matte part which prevents a good PPF cover.

To your question that the vinyl will get damaged when removing the PPF, my detailer told me that chances are 50:50. What I however concluded was that the decal will last much longer when covered by the PPF, so it would not really matter. In other words. If I won't cover the decals with the PPF, it won't survive as long as the PPF anyway.

I have no regrets doing the whole hood in ppf as long as the install is done correctly.

I did PPF over hood, but not decal. The decal is vinyl, my tough process is…

If the decal gets screwed up, I’ll replace de decal. But I wanted to keep it up the matte look on it.

My installer got a full hood PPF that has thecut around the decal. It also installed so close to the decal, that there’s no space between the decal and PPF.

I’m not doing ceramic coating.

The PPF on the hood cuts out from the decal, on mine the installer did try to put it over the decal, but it was a no go. My whole car has been ceramic coated, including decals, wheels, and the PPF portions. No issues at all, water runs off with no residue or spots.

Nice! Yeah I was thinking worst case scenario I can replace the decal with a new one in the future if it’s still being produced or there are any left to be had. I’ll update with what my local shop is able to do for me!
