What is shocking is what Ford think these cheap plastic parts are worth.
It's not the cost of manufacturing, it's a cost of premium for an OEM part of a special version. Same for the vinyls or badges and all the car brands do it to the more unique models, probably so it's not cheap to mimic them. Same for the HP wheels, which as OEM cost 4x more than Ford Performance pack that came later, even though they are 100% identical.

AND the reason insurance companies write for imported/aftermarket parts and not oem. because the oem's think their parts are made out of gold.

I got hit a little over a month ago. Insurance came with aftermarket for all the replacement parts, I pushed back and said I want OEM, it was in near perfect condition with OEM parts when I got hit, it should be returned to me that way. They didn’t even put up a fight, approved the OEM parts.

As for treating parts like gold, as others mentioned, the pieces that came on special trims/models are meant for those cars. The manufacturers try to keep it that way as much as possible. Also, there’s usually not as many of those pieces made, so they don’t get the scale on those pieces that they do on others. Also meaning they don’t have as many made for replacements as well. Have to factor that in too.
