Mach 1 5-spoke wheels on a PP2 car?

Hi Guys,

I know this is more of a GT question but I'm guessing some of you came from a PP2 car.

My dad has a PP2 car and wants to get a 2nd set of wheels since the PP2 wheel/tire combo is something he'd like to save for track days. He would like to put a set of the 5-spoke Mach 1 wheels on the car.

The PP2 front wheel is 10.5" with a +24 offset. The Mach 1 wheel is 9.5" with a +40. The manual says that the PP2 geometry is designed for the +24 offset but does it actually matter that much? A ½" wide spacer would alter offset but by almost the same amount and those are pretty common.

They'll fit. The PP1, PP2, bullitt, and mach 1 all have the same brakes, so yes the M1 wheels will fit a PP2. If you can't find a set cheap, just get a set of SP2's from LMR, they are flow formed PP2 knock off wheels and are actually lighter than the stock wheels.

Do not use a spacer on the m1 wheels unless you're just looking for stance. Then a 5mm can be used with no changes.

You appear not to know what offset means and how it's directly tied to width. May want to read up.

SVE SP2's in 19x10 would be a better choice for a PP2 for non track wheels. You can rotate them without a spacer and they look way better.

Thanks for the suggestion. Those are very nice wheels and Id imagine they are quite a bit lighter than the OEM M1 wheels.

He loves the look of the PP2 wheels but doesn’t like how the PP2 fronts stick out so far. So, he’s trying to correct that in addition to getting street friendly tires.

I’ll see him tonight for dinner and will show him these wheels.

You can use square wheels in aftermarket, just not with the stock PP2 wheels. The SP2's look nearly identical, are lighter, and come in more sizes and offsets.

With 19x10’s you can have the same offset front and rear without spacers. It’s 19x11’s that require different offset front and rear or a spacer up front like I run with 19x11’s up front on my 19x11 square setup. Most track guys on 19x11’s run 50/52 offset on all 4 wheels and use a 1” (25.4) spacer up front which allows them to rotate.

Both the PP2 and M1 HP front wheels have a terrible offset that results in way too much poke. My 19x11’s up front are 1/2” wider AND have way less poke than either the PP2 or M1 HP wheels.

To the OP, those two wheels (Mach 1 5 spokes and the PP2 wheels) have about the same inside clearance to the strut. The Mach 1 wheels, being narrower won't poke out.

I'd also recommend looking at some of the SVE or Apex 19x10" wide options, they have quite a few designs. Generally a 19x10 ET35 wheel can be run square with 285/35R19 tires on front and rear with no poke on the front.

The PP2 wheels poke can be fixed by running camber plates and adding some front camber. That also helps increase front grip in corners FWIW. You're not stuck with the poke.

The problem with the Ford wheels (PP2, Mach 1, or other) is they're generally quite heavy for what you get. The SVE wheels are a better buy IMHO.
