I don’t think mine did that, Lund sent me a stock tune file for my 2018 that wasn’t from my car. Assuming I use that file they sent, can I switch tuners? Been thinking of going to PBDand getting a new tuning device now that the nGauge is defunct.
the tune files are specific to each vendor's format. Or at least I'm not familiar with there being a multi-vendor standard. With an SCT it's tied to the device ID you have though for purposes of restoring the original stock map to the ECU with a non-original SCT I think it can still be done. But quiz your vendor to be sure.

Is it just me or did Lund's prices also go up. Thought it was under $700 for a SCT x4 tuner and 1 custom tune. Now its $1200 with a HP RTD? The HP RTD tuner is only $300.

So they charge near double , and lock out the ECM?

Maybe they got slapped with a huge fine from the EPA and upping the prices is how they pay it.

Jr. did say something about passing on the cost to customers. But more expensive and less flexible but not supporting other tuning devices. Doesn't seem like a decent support model, long term.

Lund was already too expensive.

The Ford tuners are collective jack-asses. There is no real sharing of information like in the GM community.

Lund is the worst as he encrypts the entire ECM and not just the tune parameters. They all make the same changes and are worried someone will "steal" their tune.

Back when the Coyote and torque based tunning was new I could see it, not so much anymore.
I'm not saying I agree with it, but I get why they do it.

They worry about it because it happened for years. They used to send people their SCT tune then those people would take that tune and let other tuners look at it.

I KNOW other tuners would as when I had a Lund tune on my Mach1 and he wasn't available for a return after new mods(I didn't wanna wait till he was back from a trip) another local tuner that I had called to do a new tune for the car was trying to act like I was the shady one not wanting to give them Lunds tune to tweak. Since anyone could see the changes it would have meant that I was basically telling the tuner all the little tweaks Lund did, which as far as Lund was concerned I'm sure was NOT something they wanted to give out willy-nilly.

I'm not sure how true it was but there was a similar issue with other shops that Lund had to do remote support with. They were likely saving copies of the tunes Lund worked with them on for a client and were likely re-using them for other cars then saying they were great tuners, when really all they are liekly doing is taking a Lund tune(or similar vendor) from a similar car, then tweaking the timing and A/F then saying "look how great I am!"

On top of that I'm sure some people were tweaking tunes AFTER getting them from Lund/Tuners, making them a bit more lean or aggressive timing then saying "tuner broke my car" after adding the original tune back.

If they want to lock their tune, fine. I draw the line when they lock the entire computer.

The question is how easy it is for other tuners to pull the data from it and see what they did.

SCT was so paranoid of tuning info being stolen that they were early on refusing to sell the SCT PRP to Lund as they were scared he was going to steal the software and make his own version to sell.

That doesn't add into it. Lund does not own my car's ECM. He has no right locking me or Ford out of it. There are ways to encrypt the software so even if I can over write it I cannot view it.

If you agreed to his TOS he has the right.

I will never agree to that.

I just hope he is up front with people who buy his tunes, somehow I believe it is buried in the fine print.

not hard. you tap the ECU signals (in and out) and run the car on a dyno. If you understand the ECU algorithms than you can back into the parameters being used.

I wouldn't be amazed if the average person buying a tune doesn't care or see a reason to care. Long as car goes Voom Voom what does it matter to them?
