I have a question. I’m tuned by Lund with the nGauge. Are you saying that I can’t go to a different shop and have my car tuned unless I have the stock tune and convert back to it first?

I thought a new tune would just overwrite the current tune.

Sorry... a little confused.
Yes. If you are Lund tuned, unless you revert back to stock the tune cannot be overwritten, even by Ford. I think this is BS, but that is the way Lund does things.

Exactly.

You’d have to put your stock file back on. Then have someone else tune it.

Now if you had the mpvi2, with credits for the vehicle you want tuned (your vehicle). You can get tuned by anyone you give access to.

Wow! Didn’t realize that.

I guess my stock tune is priceless!

I always understood my Lund tune was locked. Didn’t realize my cars actual computer was locked!

Lund does make solid tunes, but due to the locking of the computer I will never have one.

What year car do you have? Depending on the year, there’s plenty of stock mustang files available

I have a ‘16.

I love my Lund tune. Runs hard. Drives better than stock. Absolutely no complaints whatsoever with it. I do have my stock tune in my nGauge and computer though. I just figured it could just be overwritten in the car itself if I ever needed to. Didn’t realize that I would need to reflash to stock if I wanted to go a different route. No plan to though. Lund had been great to deal with. Fast turnaround, good advice and the tune just flat out works!

However, not a fan that it’s completely locked including my cars computer. Thought it was just the tune, not the cars computer.

It's not an issue unless you lose your Ngauge or it dies. Since they are not making any more Ngauges it could make for a very bad day.

Exactly!

Is there any way to take the tune off a computer and load into the car? Or off an SD card?

The new tuning device that Lund is using, can the tune be used with it?

Only way to know is to ask Lund.

I would hope they take care of existing customers.

If I were you, I wouldn’t worry about it. I never used Lund, and I have never heard any complaints from their customers. I wanted to use them, but there’s was a rumor about them not tuning California cars. Once I heard that, I got in to Hptuners. That was 2 years ago, or so.

If you have any worries about the nguage, I’d just get a spare just in case. Lund will support you no matter what.

I haven’t talked to Lund or know anything about them encrypting the entire ECM.

I know how you Canada guys are with cars and power. Lots of high quality!

edit: last time I checked Hptuners, there were stock files for 15-17 cars. That’s if you should ever need one.

on a SCT device the tune file is trivially grabbed and put on your PC.

Thanks.

Yea, not going to worry per se because I’m hopeful there will be a way.

Lol. Canadian guys have more down time to work on the cars with snow around for what seems like 14 months a year.

The stock file is stored on the device...
I don’t think mine did that, Lund sent me a stock tune file for my 2018 that wasn’t from my car. Assuming I use that file they sent, can I switch tuners? Been thinking of going to PBDand getting a new tuning device now that the nGauge is defunct.
