Happy New Year everybody!

I have these wheels:

2015_00015_02.webp

Would these lug nuts work correctly/look right:

https://www.cjponyparts.com/gorilla...yle-bulge-chrome-mustang-2015-2021/p/WHLLN29/

I tried the McGard link that WD posted on the previous page, but Safari says it can't get a secure connection to their server.

Thanks in advance!
No enough information to tell. Please contact the manufacturer for the following information.
What we need to know is the following:

1.What lug seat has been drilled into them? Do they take flat, 60 deg conical or what? You need to use a lug nut that matches the lug seat of the wheel.

2. What is the diameter of the lug seat? If the lug seat is like our OEM wheels, the seat will be around 1.2" wide and needs to be filled completely. You cannot use a narrower lug nut than what the seat requires. If the lug seat is about 0.92", you can get away with a narrower lug nut. I believe it is OK to use a wider lug nut than the seat requires. Of course, if you do, there can be issues fitting them into the lug well too. The lug nuts you are asking about would be fine for a 1.2" seat and can be used on smaller if they can fit.

3. What is the diameter of the lug nut well? You want to make sure the lug nut AND it related lug socket will fit. I think McGard only makes a 22mm lug nut for a 14x1.5 stud. Unfortunately that will add 1mm and then add the larger diameter of the socket too and in some cases, it might not fit. You need to take into consideration the socket and lug well dimensions when you get lug nuts. You can get narrow wall sockets too, that can help. On the other hand, some, like me, prefer to use protector sockets that have a plastic sheath over the socket to prevent scratching of the lug well. If you do like and use them, make sure you have space for them.

Finally, the Mustang takes a 14 x 1.5 lug nut. This is based on the stud threads. What kind of seat is wheel dependent. the OEM NEED a wide acorn bulge lug nut to properly fill the OEM seat.

The lug nut you referenced is a perfect replacement for OEM lug nuts used on OEM wheels. Several aftermarket wheels have narrow lug wells and narrower lug seats. My VMR V710 wheels have lug seats that are only 0.92" and 32mm lug wells so fitting a wide bulge left me with barely 1 mm of play around the socket. The lug nut was just barely narrower than the socket. I switched to the Gorilla 41148HT lug nuts for use on them(found at CJ Pony as small diameter lug nuts) but they cannot be used on OEM (as specified by emails with the manufacturer) since the wheels have a larger diameter seat.

P.S. - please bare with my on the measurements since I did the actual measurements over a year ago and might be off by a little bit since I am going from memory. You need actual measurements from the manufacturer. You can measure your OEM lug nut seat and they will match the diameter of the Gorilla you post.

I changed over to the Gorilla 61148CX lugs last night. I already had their locks, so buying a lug nut kit yielded me 4 extras. I can’t believe how much better they look in regard to the finish. The ones I got are about .20” taller than the OEM lugs. They have a nice wide seat just like the OEM part. To get the old ones off I ran into the same issues with no socket fitting correctly. A 21mm or 13/16” was a no-go, and a 22 was too loose. My solution was a bit dark but it worked great. I have orphan tools from various kits I’ve collected (bought, given, found) through the years. I have several of those feeler gages you get in cheap Chinese tool kits. I cut one of them down to size and placed it in the flat of a 6 point 22mm socket. It snugged up the lug nuts enough to allow me to get them all off. On the new ones, a 13/16” fits perfectly. For reference:
13/16 = .8125”
21mm = .8267”
22mm = .8661”

Picture worth a thousand words, interested in seeing them on a wheel.

Have a set coming, was not aware they are taller.
Thanks in advance

It wasn't particularly aimed at the latest questions, but it does give people part numbers for both products and some basic dimensions :like:

If I would have posted it earlier, @Genxer may have also have known that his new nuts were going to be a little taller :like:

I’ll take a pic later. The new ones are a bit more noticeable but at least they look good.

I’m just glad to know I can get my wheels off when needed. I can’t imagine the frustration one would have if they actually bought a spare tire and then couldn’t change a flat!

Here’s more pics. You can tell they are taller but I’m not one to obsess. They are brighter too, which is one reason they stand out. The lugs actually match the locks I have better, but they are Gorillas too. I like having some contrast on the car instead of being completely murdered out. Else I would have gotten black ones.

Ya I think Ford designers clearly knew what they were doing with the bright lugs. I went black but my car is black.

Blue needs some bling!

My Mustang came new with McGard locks, and the locks stuck out further than the other lugs by 5/8”. Never understood why they did that.

Did you buy it new or was this a used car? Sounds like to me someone had an issue with the OEM and replaced them. It could also be the dealer had an issue with the original or just wanted to put locks on and didn’t have the Ford so they just purchased a full McGard set.

either way, count your blessings!

I had the same locks on my new 2020 - OEM. I could not abide and I ended up swapping for black Gorillas with a properly sized locking lug that doesn't protrude.

The U.K. spec is for locking nuts (one per wheel) and they come from the factory with a set of McGuard lockers in the trunk for the local dealer to fit.

The paperwork that’s in with the nuts is US based so ford must have some supply deal with them ?

If you don’t get than as standard in the states, is there a ‘security’ package that provides them ?

WD :like:

Edit to add - the mcgard lockers we get aren’t the typical design of mcgard, I wouldn’t have guessed they were mcgard unless I had seen the paperwork :like:

I think I misunderstood. I thought you had a full McGard set. I did not realize you were only talking about the locking nuts.

On my PP2, they did come with locking lug nuts and they are in a white sealed bag. I never installed them. I have no idea who makes them. I have had issues with locking nuts in the past and did not like that they make a tool/socket that can be used to remove any locking nut, I figured they offered little to no protection. Measuring through the bag, I get a length of about 1 19/32".

Now having a better look at the after market lug that is similar to factory. Unless for some reason the factory lug just wears out. The after market will collect dust on the shelf .

The photos seen above, show very clearly. An impact was use to remove and install the lugs. The arrows in the picture are pointing to the damage done to the lug, by the tool.

The arrow pointing left removal the other installing. Caused by repeated hammering of the fastener. Just jamming the impact on the lug pulling the trigger, until the user has his way.

Loosing the SS clad cap, distortion being the end result. Continued hammering over time, the cap becomes unusable, and the socket no longer fits.

That condition even gives a warning to the user. How, the very first time the socket placed on or pulled off the lug. Does not just slip on or off, requiring extra effort, is the warning.

Pretty sure the design of the lug is not exclusive to Ford.
