I have base PP car with Recaro seats. I ordered because I wanted the Guard Metallic paint and just couldn't find a car with Recaro seats on dealer lots. The 3:73 gears are no issue for me even with the FRPP/Roush blower installed. For most casual driving, I start in 2nd gear so the shorter 1st gear with 3:73 gears is not a factor. I also got 22.9 MPG on a 500 mile highway trip running 75-80.

I like more gear in the car but some don't....it's a personal preference in the end.

I have a premium with the 3.55 gears. I didn't want the staggered setup on the premium or the 3.73. I live in the Chicagoland area and one thing that was a must for me was the drive modes that come with the premium package. Like BMACIL I also bought a set of blizzaks and spare wheels for the winter. Most will say it's dumb but I really like the snow/wet drive mode when it snows. Plus the base stereo in my 13 GT was awful. The premium isn't great but it's a lot better. Good luck!

I'm a big stereo guy but didn't want the premium and I gotta say, the base stereo is generally pretty bad. It can be decent streaming certain sources that have the gains turned up but mostly it sucks.

I do like the idea of the drive modes. I have a DD in a Mazda which runs great. I just know as it gets older there could be a chance I could have an issue with it and might need to use the Mustang in the winter.

Hi everyone,

I'm looking at a new GT and have tried searching around as bedt as a could before starting this thread, but still have a few questions

1. Axle Ratio - manual comes standard with 3:31, is the 3:55 option worth seeking out? This will be mainly my fun car/DD. not going to the track and my chances of going to the strip is about 1 in a 1000. Bigger chance of driving the car in the rain and snow.

2. Options - is there anything you did regret getting on your car option wise?

3. Anything else to consider? - my current Mustang is a great car but trying to address the things that make it truly fun for me, again for me - Auto, I find myself fighting the auto or anticipating a downshift and it doesn't happen and sometimes does without expecting. It also see,s geared to race as quickly as possible to 6th gear. Great for commuting, not for fun.

My solution to #3 is manual of course and if I am changing want to do it correctly.

4. Premium - besides price is there a must have? I like leather but I can add that for much less. Only other thing is the drive modes but don't know how much that is worth paying for.

Thanks in advance guys. The forum has always been a great source of help.:headbonk:

If premium is not that important to you, I'd get the base with PP. My '10 is my first manual and I have the 3.73 gears and is a blast to drive. You get accustomed to the faster gears in no time. Also, I'd wait for the 2018 to be revealed. Some times Ford adds extra goodies to the base models.

When I was buying my GT, the Premium worked out to an extra $67 a month, $56 if I did the 72 month deal which came out a week later. I figured it was worth it when I broke it down to monthly payments. Adding leather seat covers would probably cost me $900+ with covers and labor, the Sync 3 like $1200, not counting all the other features which would be too hard or costly to add. I wish I had gotten the 3:55 option though, and I also wish Ford offered the PP with autos. My brother-in-law just bought a base GT today, it's a really nice car and that's all he needs since it's a fast sunny day cruiser, unlike me who uses mine for a daily driver, where the extra features like heated seats, snow/rain mode, etc. come in handy.

If you are one who likes to mod your own car, I'd go with the base GT. Again, just personal preference but I didn't find much in the premium package that I couldn't live without and you could spend that money on suspension or wheel/tire upgrades.

The brakes, Torsen Diff & suspension upgrades are well worth the price of the PP package if you want a good factory setup. I would also go with an aftermarket, short shift kit. I went with the Ford Racing but there are others. Besides the blower, the shifter is my favorite mod.

Yeah I do like the center gauges, but I'm sure like you stated with the wheels, the Brembos add a bit of cost when it comes time to replace.

From the outside not having driven one, the PP GT sounds like stupid fun. Just not sure how much chance i have with traction in rain let alone snow with them.

How's the ride with the PP, is it harsh?
Base PP GT here and the ride isn't harsh at all. I also have the stage 2 Whipple on my car and driving it in the rain isn't a problem on the stock p zeros. Obviously I can't floor it in the rain but driving normally I have no traction issues in the rain. Can't tell you about snow but if you're going to drive it in the winter you should just invest in a spare set of wheels and some winter tires.

The PP seems to be a popular choice and I know it is a good value for what you get. That was what was leading me to my original thought of 3:55 gear as it is cheaper to get with the car than later.

Skipping the premium on my current mustang I thought I would really want a lot of what it came with and at first I did, but as I added performance to my mustang, I became more focused on that.

Leather is about the only thing I still would really want to have. New take offs can be had at really good prices so I'm not worried about that. Now if I find a premium for a great price I want say no, but I think a base model I can add to will be fun.

What I am double checking is the gotta haves or regret not getting. GT the first time would have been great but hindsight is always clearer... It did give me a chance to see how badly I would miss or still want the premium, and for that I'm grateful.

If there was a package for leather seats, the PP gauges and 3:55 gear, and the the puddle lamps, I'd be all over it!

I recently purchased a GT myself, I did some reading on here before I purchased and a lot of people were saying to get PP + Premium, well that's a lot of extra $$$ once you factor it all in.

The car in it's base form already had way more bells and whistles than my 2010 Tacoma. I couldn't justify the PP or Premium packages at this point in my life, I'm 24. The car in it's base form is still an amazing car. I love it.

I didn't have nearly as much fun when I test drove the auto. It just doesn't fit this car at all in my opinion.

Yeah, the options do add up quick and you can get to $40k pretty quickly on these cars.

Like I said with my EcoBoost, the AT seemed to rush into 6th and just helped make it feel more like a fast commuter car and not at all like a Mustang.

Also, I think I read that the mapping on the MT is more aggressive and tuners actually dial back the throttle a little on the MT vs adding more response to the AT.

I special ordered my car:
2017 GT Premium
400A - package
Lightning Blue
+ Nav
+ Performance Package
+ Recaro leather seats

The only thing I kind of wish I had, in hindsight... (pun intended).. was the Reverse Sensors. I though the back up cameras would give me good enough "hind sight", but I'm so used to having the sensors on my daily driver & my wife's car I miss them.

Now on to the gears, I really don't like how short 1st gear is with the 3.73's. If I could have I'd have opted for 3.55. But the Performance Pack only comes with 3.73's, and I wanted the Brembos, stiffer stock suspension, bigger radiator, and extra dials on the dash.

A few things I would have done differently would be to get the 3:55 over the stock 3:15 on the auto. I also would have gone with the leather Recaros since the cooled seats don't work as well as I expected, but the prices do add up quickly, especially if they had the PP package available for Auto cars, that would have drove the price up to over $47k for a Mustang GT Premium.

The PP ride quality is great. I'd actually prefer the PP suspension to be stiffer.

I've found the Mustang GT with PP drives in rain just fine. I was actually very impressed with how well it handles rain. I wasn't out to find its limits in the rain, mind you. But it was very stable and didn't slip around on me at all.

Mustang Brembo front brake pad cost (S550): Power Stop Z23-1792 Ceramic $51.99 (Autoanything.com)
Mustang Non-Brembo front brake pad cost (S550): Power Stop Z23-1784 Ceramic $41.59 (Autoanything.com)
So, the Brembo pads vs Standard pads aren't really a cost concern.

Lol, yeah. A bunch of members here seem to have a ton of disposable income.

I'd say wait for 2018. The regular GT might be equivalent to the current PP for all we know. Without the aggressive 3.73 gearing.
