Okay, so OP reports a handling problem and that automatically makes him A) and bad driver and B) not aware of his car's limits?
A bit presumptuous (and arrogant), eh?
Then, in the same breath, you (and every other poster in this thread, including me) tell him to "fix the hardware".
So which...
Well, this response is much better now that you've qualified your statement. That said, there's a big difference between driver skill and dangerous handling. The OP could be a highly skilled driver and is simply noting a marked decrease in the car's stability at his elevated power levels...
You've increased power, considerably, in a car that comes from the factory with more motor than the suspension can handle. That's okay, we've all done it.
It sounds to me like the IRS is doing what it does - allowing the rear wheels to move around under load. You need to lock that shit down...
Test drove a bunch of E9X M3s but ultimately went back to what I feel is the ultimate BMW - the E46 M3. I own two of them now, one for the wifey and one for me. Amazing cars, but they're getting old and need attention..... but oh so rewarding to drive.
The GTPP was way faster, no doubt, and I...
That doesn't make sense as the PP shocks are under damped in rebound for the stock PP springs, particularly up front. Add a marginally stiffer but linear spring while reducing travel seems like a step (or two) backwards if you really want true performance.
In other words, the stock PP setup is...
Dude - stop trying to justify this crappy tune. Rev hang and inconsistent engine braking are GARBAGE and counterproductive to any sort of precision driving. Frankly, the rev hang sounds dangerous.
Oh, and the stock tune DOES rev hang. It does it when warm. It never goes away. You're just not...
Agreed, except the car desperately needs better shocks but really, from a suspension point I'd say it really only needs:
1. Diff bushings inserts
2. LCA bearings
3. Shocks
4. IRS inserts (Steeda of BMR Lockout)
Anything more would be counterproductive for my purposes.
Awesome input! It sounds like the bearings really didn't increase "harshness" or "noise" over sharp hits....which has been my fear with them. You mention the car is ready to pounce - inside traction greatly improved?
As for the diff whine - I'm not surprised the blacks increase whine over my...
Wow - so refreshing to get no-bull feedback from you, wildcat and very few others here. Really, really appreciate it. You've saved me a ton of headache for something I now know (and had assumed all along) I'd regret.
This, however, makes me sad in that "my" issue (:)) is enough to make me...
So #1 sounds not too bad. A little more 'bang' over sharp stuff but overall nothing major.
That said, it's hard for me to understand how #2 doesn't bug the shit out you. I mean even today - warmish and dry in San Diego - I pull out on to a busy street and give it ~1/3 throttle and while the...
Good stuff. Two things, as you get more time with it:
1. You'd day that the bearings increased harshness more than the CB005? The latter was noticeable for me, easily.
2. What about inside wheel hop/skip/traction during slow speed turns while on the throttle?
If #2 is completely resolved...
Saying it "drives fine" and "it's optimal" are totally different things - not that you said that but it could be misconstrued. I'm quite sure you can drive your car to grocery store, but is it user friendly with its very steppy/peaky torque curve?
You've gone the max-NA route and I respect and...
Ha! Yes please:)
NVH is very subjective and while you've a very high attention to what the car is doing and tend to "call it like it is", like my self, ya' never really know until you experience something first hand.
You're the main reason I'm installing these but I'm still nervous:)
Very, very encouraging since, as I stated, the soft diff inserts had a near-zero impact on NVH. Only an ultra faint 'whine' on decal that is tough to hear unless listening for it.
The LCA bearing, though, directly absorbs...
