My wife and I are retiring to the Las Vegas area, (Centennial Hills) and I decided to drive my 2020 GT350 there rather that trailer or ship it. It's 579 miles from where I currently live (SF Bay area) to our new home. I gassed it up (Premium only always!) and hit the road early in the morning. I really tried to nurse my gas mileage along and did pretty good. I averaged 16-19 MPG for the whole trip. That said, some of the freeways were wide open, easy to see great distances and straight as a string, sooo...I wound it up to 120 on I5 and I must say, it was smooth as silk. This car is very comfortable with speed and 120 felt stable and safe. It was ready for a lot more, but at 120 things were coming at me very quickly, so I backed off. But at least I did it. I burned up 3 full tanks of gas, and at current rates flying would have been cheaper. And apart from my lower back issues it was a fairly comfortable ride. I don't have the R, so no Recaros. It was a long day, traffic here and there, but for the most part the car handled the 579 miles easily and fairly comfortably. Although I don't plan any more long trips in this car, I did it and I know it can do it with ease. I bought this car to drive, it's no garage queen, but no more big stuff. Next up is to drive it to the Shelby headquarters, maybe Cars and Coffee and the Shelby Bash in October. There it is. 579 miles and my 2020 GT350 is now resting comfortably in it's new home.

The longest I've driven mine in any one go is 300 miles (to Watkins Glen) and it was perfectly fine, even with a set of track wheels (and all other track-associated paraphernalia and tools) jammed in the back.

On the return trip I went through a full day of track sessions, swapped my wheels, then drove back the same 300 miles that night. No issues whatsoever.

I will say it is definitely more comfortable than my old 2012 GT/CS and I drove that one for 1000 miles from Houston to the Knoxville area in one day (took around 17 hours with traffic etc.)

I bet when the old man named it, he never imagined the GT part would actually end up being a great GT car. And for the record (just to razz you a tiny little bit;-) 579 miles is far from LONG. You should have put LONG in quotations, LOL. 500 miles is a day trip.

Some of us are headed out this week to the Shelby Mountain Run in TN/NC. I’ll do close to 2,000+ over a four day period. Have done it several times. The car is great, and the Recaro’s are amazing.

Glad you got to enjoy your car on that trip, Broid! These cars are surprisingly good long distance cars. I recently did several 700+ miles and 500+ days in my 350R and I was in great shape at the end of each day - no aches or pains and my ears weren't ringing, either!

The Shelby museum in Las Vegas was one of my destinations and the small collection is amazing!

Nice! That means no more gatherings in the Bay Area. Enjoy retirement. I’ve taken mine to San Diego. Easily able to get there on a little over a tank and a half averaging 95 (500 miles for to door).

I don’t own a 350 but my GT has proved to be way better at a vacation car then I would have ever imagined and we have had 4 people in it the whole time. My wife and mother in law have ridden in the back seat with no issues. My wife even slept back there :)

I have recaros which I love and we have put many miles on it since leaving Phoenix. About 6,000 so far with another 3,000 to go. The car is supercharged and we have been getting about 23mpg out of it. I’ve owned it two years and it was at 12,500 miles when we left at the beginning of June so most of the miles on it will be from this trip.

It’s comfortable and my wife has actually grown to enjoy the car even though next year we will take our Kia suv to keep the mileage off the mustang.

Congrats on the retirement!
I bought my car in NV and drove to SoCal and it was enjoyable. Would love to do another long distance trip with it actually.
I have the recaros and found the seat to be pretty comfortable just wished it had cooling, it was getting a bit hot.
A lot of less traffic roads if you go a bit more outside Vegas than CA I'm sure. Enjoy the 350!

Nice. This a good read. Thanks for posting. When you wrote you tried to nurse it for good gas mileage and averaged 16-19 for the whole trip, I was disappointed at that mileage thinking it would get a lot better on the highway. Then I got to this part, "Sooo...I wound it up to 120 on I5 and I must say, it was smooth as silk. This car is very comfortable with speed and 120 felt stable and safe. It was ready for a lot more, but at 120 things were coming at me very quickly". So much for nursing it 😆.

Nice house BTW. Been to San Fran and Vegas many times. Both have their attractions. Aside from retirement, can you tell us why you relocated and how you're feeling about it? ✌🇺🇸

Thanks Tony. We're retiring because we can. BUT, not in the SF Bay area. We had a short list of needs/wants in a retirement destination. In no order; lower cost of housing/living, reduced taxes, immediate access to good medical care, immediate access to a major international airport, fairly easy access to goods, services, entertainment and dining, immediate access to In-N-Out burgers. When you line up your wants/needs, it's amazing how few places in the country fit the bill. But the suburban Las Vegas area nails every one. The only trade off, and its a BIG one, is the climate. I've been living at the beach for 23 years, and leaving that will be tough. But compromise is the key, and since the LV area has everything else, it was a fairly easy decision. Plus, our house has great air conditioning and a pool and spa.

But let me add one more thing. I've lived in California my entire life, almost 65 years. And the consequences of the politics of this state have rendered it a shell of it's former self. The state I grew up with is long gone, and especially in the SF Bay area, the politics of it have destroyed a once beautiful place. Between the constantly rising costs, the government waste and ineptitude, and the net results of many years of this kind of leadership, I am leaving and only feel bad about those left behind. I'll miss what this place WAS, but I won't miss what it's become.

I thought I wrote this!!!
Seriously, we’re a year younger and I feel the same. We are now retired.
We just got home from a 4217 mile trip visiting family and friends with other motives….looking for a place to live.
Wyoming is at the top of our list.
