If you actively do not want some of those things and couldn't care less about most of the others, the value of the premium fades a bit. Maybe a lot.

exactly.....as far as the premium package the only thing that intrerested me was the bumper with diffuser. Ford can keep the gimmicky stuff like the toggles, puddle lights, etc and give me rear brembos or a bump in hp lol

OP - It all comes down to what YOU want. Test drive both and see which one puts a bigger smile on your face, simple as that. I suspect it would be the GT, but I could be wrong. Good luck!

That was a lot great feed back from everyone.
Sooooo when I'm driving around and see a Mustang, for some reason I always get excited but once i see the pony badge on the back, i get disappointed (no offense to the non GT owners, this is just my opinion), my point is it's a Mustang, shouldn't it be a V8? Lastly, I grew up in the 80s with the manual windows, unlock the door with a key etc. so creature comforts is just that creature comforts (I think that made sense lol). Good luck!

I'm not proposing that you consider the cost of each vehicle as a wash. Its about total spend. Ie I have a budget of X and want the best performance platform for my needs.

If its 35 -40 grand consider getting the EB, as it gives you significantly more room for additional modifications. A base PP EB can be acquired for 25k. Figure 3 grand on basic fundamental power mods to get a great tune, racing IC, BOV, catch can, and downpipes/exhaust. 28k from 35k leaves quite a bit of money to play with to upgrade e85, CF Driveshaft, lightened Flywheel, Lightweight Wheels, Michelin Pilot SS Tires, and you are still around the cost of the STOCK PP GT.

I really wish they used lighter wheels on the PP!

If you have a higher budget, the GT may be the better starting platform, as it has a higher potential endpoint (if you have 10 grand to spend on Forced Induction). But with those monies, would it make more sense to get a GT350 or a Camaro2ss.

Its a bang for buck assessment. I'm ignoring emotional attachments (v8 Warboy Cult), and some practical considerations (warranty, cost/time of modification installation, etc.)
I'm a drag racer with an unlimited budget compared to most. This is why. I own a purpose build trailered drag car. (95 GT) I'll throw a superchager on the 15 next spring just so the wife can play around at the strip. She's getting bored with her mid to high 11 second bolt on car. But one persons budget constrains don't effect everyone. If your racing on a tight budget get the EB. The money you save up front will most likely get chewed up in the long run in the extra repair cost. It doesn't make sense to buy a GT350 then drag race it. The GT350 wasn't built for that. F&*K Camaros. They lose once the mods get added to the equation. I have videos to back that statement up! I don't see the EB as a good bang for the buck. I see it as a ticking time bomb. Ultimately you get what you pay for. If your planning to mod. Even on a limited budget. Choice the platform that's most likely to hold up to the mods your adding. The coyote is a proven beast. The ecoboom.....not so much!

Back to my "Depends on what they are looking for".
To some racing doesn't necessarily mean drag racing.
That's why I stressed the lighter front end, better handling etc. Go to an autocross or track racing event, and its a very different jungle.

Yeah same with me.. When I see the Pony logo (with tri bars too), I think, fuel savings, just want the looks of a Mustang, daily driver, cost savings.

When I see the GT logo, I say to myself, that's a car that you don't want to mess with (unless of course you have a real fast car), nod my head in appreciation and I will try to drive next to it to hear the exhaust note!

All the mustang trim looks great and which ever reason why you got it, be happy. But the GT is def. what makes the Mustang, well.... a Mustang.

Sadly I agree.. my friend with an EB started to smoke and got misfire codes. Luckily it was the spark plugs that threw the misfire codes but it's still smoking.

He's modded, tuned and cannot go back to the dealer and wish he would have stayed stock because now he is paranoid. Another friend of his it's having multiple probs (I didn't get the details of the probs).

Not hating on the EB.. But if one was to buy it, buy for the cost savings, fuel economy.. then it's a really great car! don't buy it, mod it and then think it's the fastest thing out there. At the end of the day, it may be ticking time bomb and most importantly, it will sound like all the other 4 bangers :(

I'll be interested in a base V8 manual as soon as I can save some $.

I enjoy the base GT --- fast and fun as a stock car -- also prefer the cloth seats.

If you are obsessed with bells and whistles then get the Ecoboost.
If,like me, you want a car that can play your music ,make an occasional phone call, and absolutely kick ass on the road(manual transmission of course:headbang:) then get the base GT.

A stock EB/PP auto is .5 seconds slower than a GT/PP to 60, and the EB/PP will out slalom and out brake a GT/PP. You get better mpg and better insurance.rates.

...because there are so many stock GT/PP's out in the wild.

I think everyone on this forum and even non enthusiast clearly understand the fact that smaller engines typically get better mpg and better insurance rate compared to the performance vehicle in the lineup.

Maybe it's just me but it seems like everyone gets it except for the EB owners.

I "get it" and I bought the loaded EcoBoost. Maybe part of it is my age - 59 yrs old - but 310/320 is plenty of power for me and I get big smiles every time I get behind the wheel. I drive 300-400 miles each week for work and the mpg was a big factor for me... also the bells and whistles of the premium package; if I am going to live in my car every day I might as well enjoy the extra stuff. I bought this to enjoy my work drives and have some fun, which is why I also got a manual transmission.

This is a daily driver that will have a LOT of miles put on it, not a garage queen for me to brag about to others. I don't feel a need to rev my engine in traffic and challenge teenagers at stoplights in illegal drag races in an attempt to show that I have a pair.

I also live in a great area for driving - close to the Tail of the Dragon and only a half hour away from some other very twisty mountain roads - and the handling is incredible. The one and only thing I miss is the exhaust note, and that almost steered me to the GT. But the more I thought about it the more it occurred to me that I didn't want to pay $7k for the exhaust note. So I "get it", and I'm happy.

Look I'll sum this up fairly quick. If you're cross shopping these two cars, just get the GT. If you get the ecoboost you'll always wish you'd gotten the GT every time you see one. I've never heard of anyone wishing they got the Ecoboost after they buy a GT though :) .

Real world, EB will always be behind stock for stock, it's the fact. My view on it is, a Mustang is a performance car, nothing else. If you are buying a performance car and can get the best there is no reason to even question the GT. Stock for stock the GT on average traps 10mph more than the EB. The GT just keeps pulling whereas the EB dies off, that's just the nature of stock turbos in general. And in most real world instances the average driver in a GT is going to be using most of it's power on the streets, straight roads, stop lights, highways and take offs. The only benefit that is truly arguable IMO is EB is cheaper to own in stock form.
