A few days ago I received a letter from ford/roush requesting the use of my car for emissions testing. They also said that the car will be fully insured and returned to me in about 3 weeks to a month. I tossed it in the trash, don't know why I was selected, is it because I have a Mach 1, a 23, a 23 mach 1 or my close proximity to Detroit, who knows? Anyway my car now has long tubes and is tuned for E-85 so I don't want ford and/or roush poking around and fucking up my tune. Anyone else get a letter also?

We're they offering compensation?
Exactly. First of all what does Roush have to do with the M1 except aftermarket parts. Unless they were offering to put free equipment on my car I wouldn’t touch it.

Seems odd unless Ford/Roush are working on a blower for the Mach? I don’t remember if they released a CARB approved blower for the 22-23 GT’s, maybe they need a 22-23 Mach for a similar purpose? I would assume your proximity to the mothership probably has something to do with it, Ford has all that info from your purchase.

But all they mentioned according to OP is emissions testing. That’s kind of weird.

I hear Roush and I think blower. Unless they’re testing an exhaust system but catbacks or axle backs wouldn’t affect that. Maybe a CAI?

But you’d think if they were wanting to test a blower they’d mention that in the letter too. Seems like a strange request from a manufacturer

The more I’m sitting here thinking, the weirder this seems to me. Ford has employees with these cars. Hell, Ford probably has test cars still sitting around. Why would they just send a random letter out.

OP, is there a phone number or address on the letter? Almost seems like a scam, but who sends a letter in the mail as a scam anymore?

I agree that it sounds weird that they would single out one person. We’ll see if anybody else steps forward but I’m nowhere near Detroit so I don’t count. They’re already trying to kill what I do to my car here.

IL is trying to pass legislation that would adopt all of your CA EPA stuff, including the banning of the sale of new gas cars after 2035. I’ve signed onto the SEMA Action Network to fight it and have sent my own emails to my local representatives (with zero response, big shock). So I might be in the same boat as you soon

They probably just want to test a new intake, AFAIK they haven't made one that supports the mach 1/bullitt yet.

If you're tuned you're probably not eligible anyway but I doubt it's something shady. I've heard of this before for other things, basically they need random car samples to prove worthiness for CARB.

I didn't see any mention of compensation.
I agree, with long tubes and an E-85 tune I'm probably no longer eligible.
The more I think about it, they may have finally developed a CAI for the M1/bullitt and possibly a tune and they need random samples to test for CARB approval.
It's a moot point anyway as I tossed the letter in the trash, I was just curious if anyone else got one.
The only reason I can think of that roush and ford are involved is we all know that ford racing and roush are joined at the hip. Maybe Roush developed the part and is using ford's testing facilities?

It's pretty simple.

Manufacturers contract companies like Roush to do testing which is required by the EPA.

The Federal government’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), as well as the California Air Resources Board (CARB), require vehicle manufacturers to perform emissions tests on customer owned and operated vehicles that are 1-2 years old (between 10,000-50,000 miles) and 3-4 years old (over 50,000 miles) to verify the long term robustness of their exhaust emissions systems. This required test program is called the In-Use Verification Program (IUVP).

They're just going to run it for a testing cycle or two on the dyno.

I remember way back when, my car buddies were all in college or at technical school, and people always wanted the jobs that opened up at Roush. Thinking they were just going to be building race Mustangs and stuff all day!

It was just boring run of the mill stuff that they would do at any other automotive supplier etc.

So Roush could cook your motor with their subpar cooling setup and then have Ford deny your warranty lol

Yep, I got it too. It was like $300 compensation I believe and only mentioned that it was for emissions testing.

Threw it in the garbage.
