Anyone received my received this letter in the mail from FORD? I have not experienced any fuel pressure issues. Has anyone? Do I need to take it in, if they flashed the PCM to correct this. Does that mean my “double honk” will be reset? I removed the double honk.

Ford Motor Company has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain
2022 Model Year Expedition, 2021-2022 Model Year F-150 and Mustang, and 2021-2023 Model Year Bronco and Explorer vehicles, including the VIN shown above.
We apologize for this situation and want to assure you that, with your assistance, we will correct this condition. Our commitment, together with your dealer, is to provide you with the highest level of servic and support.
What is the issue?
it is possible for your vehicle to sustain a loss of fuel pressure and flow from fuel tank due to fuel pump failure. This can cause a lack of fuel delivery to th engine and result in an engine stall while driving.
Prior to fuel pump failure, you may experience poor engine performance (misfiring or running rough), a check engine light, or a reduction in engine power. Fuel pump failure is more likely to occur under low fuel or warm weath and hot fuel conditions in the fuel tank.
An engine stall while driving increases the risk of a crash.
What is the risk?
What will Ford and your dealer do?
Control Module (PCM) free of charge.
How long will it take? The time needed for this repair is less than one-half day. However, due to
service scheduling requirements, your dealer may need your vehicle for a longer period of time.
What should you do? Please call your dealer without delay and request a service date for Recall
2575. Provide the dealer with your VIN, which is printed near your name at the beginning of this letter.
Ford has not issued instructions to stop driving your vehicle under this safety recall. You should contact your dealer for an appointment to have your vehicle remedied as soon as practicable.

This ^ thread has details and discussion of the recall.

800,000 Ford vehicles, as many as 25,000 Mustangs are affected.

I'm aware of one Member who had a failure.

It's up to you if you'd want to wait or have the repair done now. All of us have been living with this potential for failure since owning the vehicle. Several have had the repair made. None have experienced negative effects.

I had the recall repair action completed yesterday. The tech took 30 minutes to hock-up, download the software and re-flash the Powertrain Control Module. The car rebooted several times (3 or 4?) while the changes took place.

The new code will require action by a Ford tech, either at a dealer or via a Ford mobile service visit. The repair does not involve a physical replacement of parts. I prefer mobile service for these things. I can chat with the tech and be in-sight of the vehicle while things are happening.

I can't speak to the double-honk. You can discuss that with the tech.

I received the same letter, but I'm not clear on how a software update to the PCM is going to fix the fuel pump issue. I have read other threads on this forum saying that the issue is in the fuel pump and / or venturi. And some members have replaced their fuel pump as a prevent measure for fuel pump failure.

Am I missing something . I'm confused !!!!

The link above, pages one and two highlight the NHTSA reports of the problem. The following are excerpts: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2025/RCLRPT-25V455-7716.pdf

"The CCRG discovered that vehicles were all produced between July 2021 and July 2022."

"Teardown analysis indicated that jet pump orifices on some returned parts were blocked by contamination. The source of contamination was not confirmed. The CCRG reviewed the available warranty data and noted that the rate of failures had decreased significantly after the supplier implemented several corrective actions from December 2021 through September 2022 to reduce contamination and production variation."

"Ford found that the supplier had made changes to the jet pump process to accommodate an increase in build complexity in June 2021 and identified that a tier 3 supplier for the GEN 4.6 fuel pump pumping chamber was not statistically capable for internal clearances and utilizing the full tolerance range of the supplier specifications. The low clearances resulted in an increase of internal friction and sensitivity to vapor lock beginning in early July 2021."

The recall affected close to 1M vehicles.

The most obvious solution to correct the problem is to replace the pump. That might involve 1M pumps, techs in the field, handling fuel, etc. But Ford came up with another solution: change how the pump is operated.

Modern fuel pumps are not on/off devices. Our pumps are electronically managed by the Powertrain Control Module. By monitoring different parameters in real time, the PCM, through the use of Pulse Width Modulation, controls fuel pump operation, output and pressure.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pulse-width_modulation

Before the recall was applied, the problem pumps were being driven by the original software, software coded for another pump with a different physical makeup. By updating the software, the PCM is now commanding these specific pumps via a profile that aligns with the physical clearances of those pumps.

While this recall solution has begun being fielded as recently as this week, Ford has used a similar patch technique with another recall involving diesel fuel pumps and biodiesel deposits.

The original problem most often pronounced itself in the Summer, often when the driver had little fuel in the tank. Too soon to tell how this patch will work over the long-term. We might see problems this Summer, next or never again.

Options:

- Do nothing. We've been living with this issue since taking receipt of our cars

- Implement the recall

- Replace the existing pump with a replacement factory pump

- Replace the existing pump with a replacement aftermarket pump

Yep. For the letter for my 2021 GT/CS CONVERTIBLE. Took it to the dealership and was in and out about 1.5 hours. Never had issues and hope never will. I fill up my fuel when it’s 1/4 left. Never let it go lower than that. Just something I have always done.

You got rid of the double honk with forscan? If so the new program from the dealer won’t change it. It’s a different module

So there is a fix for this? I bought my GT in March from a German dealership, they told me about the recall, but said that Ford has not issued a fix.

I'm from Croatia and 2 weeks ago when I changed the oil I asked my dealership about it and they said the same thing: There is a recall, but no fix available at the moment.

Are dealerships in US implementing the software fix?

Yes. Got a letter 2 weeks ago and had my local dealership update it. I never had issues so I don’t know what they did. Haha
