I have a 2015 Red Ragtop. I thought I had fixed the water issue myself. I get a ton of water inside the car after it rains here in the northeast. I don't drive my car every day, in fact, I have put very few miles on it this year. It sits, so it's not road water. I have found most of the water accumulated in front of the rear wheels inside the back passenger window well. I vacuumed out the water once, as it was originally only on one side (PASSENGER). That took out about two gallons of water plus all the water inside the car and on the floor. The carpet is ruined, the wiring I am sure is getting effected and I am going to have to sell the car. Now it's on both sides. My 50,0000 dollar car is being ruined by shoddy Ford workmanship. Dare say I cannot believe they won't cover this manufacturing issue. I brought it to the dealer that I bought it from, and they could car less. Said they have never heard this issue before. I am open to suggestions....

Take it to another dealer. I assume you're out of warranty? Did you pay for a diagnosis?
Dealers usually outsource water leak diagnosis to specialists, so you're better off googling to find a local specialist to pay them to chase it down.

Update: At the dealer now. They ordered their "Water Guy" to come to test it. With all the research and complaints on the "net" about this issue, FORD must know its happening and why. I personally paid 48,000 for my loaded vert Stang and it is really upsetting to find out all that money is rusting away. My seats are not working....massive amounts of water are now on both sides of the car front and back. The problem is one of drainage. The body well under the back window, in front of the rear tire, can hold a couple of gallons of water. If the drain hole gets clogged due to debris getting stuck in the hole due to the black side skirts resting up again the body from the outside with no cut out for the drain hole. So now I have black mold on the floor, mold on the seats which are heated and cooled as well as ruined carpet and wire harnesses. Between my own health issues with September 11th and my stepdaughters CF, there is no way I can drive this car until they figure it out. Then making me pay for it.....is going to be the fight of my life. FORD...I hope you are listening.

Make them buy it back or replace it ... nobody should be expected to live with a car that has that magnitude of problems. Just the mold issue alone should be enough for Ford to realize they need to buy it back or replace it.

Mine is convertible, and I starting have water issues after having my door latch recall fixed. One day I found my passenger side had about 1 in of freaking WATER in the back, and I could hear water splashing somewhere on my right side. I seriously doubt Sterling Ford in Houston is dishonest as f@@k.

Sent my car there for diagnose after my passenger side side was almost dried and was asked $778 for fixing the issue. They told me leaves and dirt got clogged around the water outlet under the small side window. I told them to hold there and wait for me. Came with my dad who's a car mechanic. Here's the crazy part: the diagnose is $188, and clean it with a vacuum cleaner is about $600 more. It's just as ridiculous as it sounds. Both my driver and passenger side were flooded mysteriously. I did tell them to check the driver side as well, and they told me there's nothing wrong. So how the hell I got water??? Their staffs showed me how much water they got out of my car, half of their vacuum tank, and I knew something isn't right.

Went home and took off seats, covers, and small side windows. Got all leaves and dirt out. Spend 3 days to dry both carpets, then put everything back on. So far so good, no water and dry floor. I have to say the design is a bit lousy. Maybe drive convertible is not a good idea, and water leak is a very common problem. One thing we noticed was my passenger door has some gap between bottom seal. Put paper under both doors, close them then pull the paper. The driver side has some friction, and the passenger side has no resistance at all.

If you live in Houston, DO NOT visit Sterling McCall Ford in Houston. I also found one and the only screw for side window missing. Called Sterling Ford, no response.

If Ford make their electric Mustang as leaky as lots of S550's are, then the company will go bust. No one wants water sloshing around near 400 volt batteries.

An update: The car has been at the dealership two weeks now. The water damage was so bad that the repairs are over 7 thousand dollars. The issue in my opinion is a simple one. One which most of you can fix on your own. The drain holes in the rear window well are small and covered by the side skirts from the outside. That means that when water drains down into the well and carries any debris with it, the debris gets stuck at the hole and closes it. That caused the well to fill up with water until it flows over the sheetmetal and into the cabin of the car. By drilling a larger hole in the side skirts from the outside where the hole is, and enlarging the hole just a size or two, this issue could have been avoided.

I have gotten customer service involved and was offered about a fifth of that to fix the issue meaning 5 thousand dollars out of my pocket for a manufactures design defect. Ford puts a drain hole in their cars and then covers it with plastic so it cannot drain properly? This is somehow the owners fault? I refused to accept their offer and asked for a review to go higher. I am also seeking advise from an attorney for a class actions suit as I know many of you have dealt with or are dealing with the same issue.

if you have water inside the cabin of your car it’s health issue. Black mold, green mold. I have both. I have a daughter with CF who can’t go anywhere near the car. I’m myself am a 9/11 responder who has to be careful due to breathing issues.

I’ve been a Loyal Ford owner, for years.....don’t do this to me Ford.

Do you drive a convertible? I had the same issue, but luckily my dad is a car mechanic. We did sent it to a ford dealership for diagnose, and we were asked $600 more for simply cleaning the drain hole. We showed up and memorized what they took out while telling them we want to see the problem in person. Drove home and cleaned the little hole with a vacuum cleaner. Haven't had any water for 3 months. I am thinking about getting an attorney as well. Their brake pad is defect, and might kill someone for sure. I was lucky that I got out of the shithole with $200.

March 17th.

Two weeks ago, I was contacted by Ford Customer Service and offered a total of 1950.00 help to fix the interior on my 2015 Mustang GT. The total damage on the car as of now is 7500.00 for the interior. When I refused their offer and asked for an appeal, they forwarded it upstairs to their bosses, I was told. Yesterday I got their response. They are now offering 3,500 dollars on a 7,500 dollar repair job. I again refused. This issue was not one I created, It’s a safety issue and a health issue. The car is rusting from the inside out. The wire harnesses have rusted out as have the seats and controls. The black mold is everywhere. Ford wants a fight they have one. Now I will be going to the News Media to ask for help. I’m not asking for correction of something I accidentally did, or caused. This is a design flaw. If anyone else has this issue or has any other suggestions that have worked for you, I am all ears.....

Well folks, looks like I am starting on this journey also. Came out to my car after leaving the car out in the rain for the first time ever and find passenger side compartment front to back completely filled with water. Car is now at dealer body shop.

Based on some of the responses here, is this issue more prevalent in the S550 convertible - or only the convertible platform?

Is it only an issue with the early 2015 verts and if so, what was changed or updated to prevent this from happening in the later S550 vert production cycle (2018+)?

My recommendation is to remove the plastic side skirts, widen the drain hole and put another hole in the side skirt itself. To allow water and debris a true flow through. Crazy how a fifty dollar job will cost for thousands. Many more folks probably have the issue and font know because they don’t drive the car in the rain, it’s a Vert, garage it, and who really sits in the back seat. Ford offered me a total of 3,500 dollars to help defray costs. I turned them down. I’m going with Gieco. Paying for everything except the 500 dollar deductible. Of course my Ins is going to go up to. Ford...you used to be my favorite brand..

Update:
The body shop found that the drain hole at the base of the top to be the culprit and was able to clear it out without removing the top assembly. Right now they are at $2700.00 in parts and labor which my insurance will cover less deductible. They explained to me that the hole is very small in diameter and struggles to drain effectively or fast enough which then overfills the drain pan which is at the base of the top assembly.

Good that Ford was able to find it. As long as I can remember, Ford drain design has been horrible. The SN95 verts have the water running from the cowl through the frame rails (under the sill trim) and exiting through little slits out the back in front of the rear wheels. The other problem I have found with Fords in general is they are real stingy with the application of seam sealer and gaps = leaks. My advice is use the service manual or Google to find all of the drain points and clean them out once in a while using a piece of stiff wire like a coat hanger. It doesn't take but a couple of leaves and debris to cause a clog and then a flood inside the car. Glad you have it fixed!!
