That's not rod knock. It's not valvetrain noise. Something with the crank/damper or something I believe.

It's the horsepowers trying to escape from an unintended outlet. It would be funny if it just ended up being a loose header or something.

It's a strange thud kind of sound. Something very DENSE/heavy. Almost doesn't even sound 100% metallic. Or something hitting/knocking around in an filled oil pan.

Check the normal culprits. Balancer, clutch, flywheel or torque converter if auto.

I thought I lost a rod earlier this year and it turned out to be the factory exhaust hook up clamp being loose.

UPDATE!
Going to drain the oil right now, here is compression test results and some borescope pictures.

Compression test results:
Cylinder 1: 160
Cylinder 2: 170
Cylinder 3: 165
Cylinder 4: 160

Cylinder 5: 155
Cylinder 6: 155 Test2: 160
Cylinder 7: 130 Test2: 145
Cylinder 8: 155

Seems really low considering my gen 2 engine with 100k miles got over 210 on all the cylinders except the damaged one.
The rings are gapped for boost but the compression ratio is a little over 12:1 compared to the gen2 11:1.

What are your opinions?

Cylinder 7 looks like it may have scoring, check pics below. I am worried I may have damaged the rings when installing the pistons as my piston ring compressor was trash and cause the rings to constantly slip out.

UPDATE 2
Oil reveal…

Looks like bearings. Oil has a ton of glitter on it and magnetic drain plug shows a lot of metal as well.

Yeah, she's smoked. That's a lot of scoring on #7. I'm still thinking you had a loss of oil pressure that led to all this. Wonder what the oil pump looks like.

Sorry to see this Triston.
No reason to send that oil out for metallic PPM analysis and this is after you added 4 quarts of new oil, correct ?

Yep after 4 quarts of clean oil was added.

And ya the visual guesstimate is enough to conclude. Lots of copper looking metal that isn’t magnetic, should be bearing material.

Any idea on why compression numbers were low? Is it because rings are gapped to boost? Should I be concerned?

Loss of oil pressure due to oil starvation is the most logical explanation.

Would also explain why my vct solenoid failed, as they rely on oil pressure.

Wait until you verify that the primary/secondary cam chain sprockets are indexed/timed correctly before drawing any conclusions on low compression numbers.

I’m not recalling, which cylinder numbers where damaged on your original engine ?

I was expecting more in the bottom of the drain pan given the glitter look. Have seen Ceratec look very similar in used oil with a weird cloudy/ridge look. Just minus the abundance in distinct glitter specs. Thought you said it had ceratec in it but may have that wrong.

Do you have an oil filter opener? Would be very interested to see what the pleats have collected.

Original engine had a hole in piston 4 and the ring was melted and the cylinder wall was damaged.
