I had Katzkin covers installed on my GT500 Recaro seats. Had a local vendor do the work. The online configurator leaves a lot to be desired. If you work with a vendor they can give you way more options as far as stitching designs and panel colors.

Thanks for posting!
They look killer.
Inspirational counts for way more than many admit :)

Where do you guys live?
Iā€™m hoping my mischievous purple Mach HP with Recaros gets built. Going to do an orange/purple theme and want to custom cover the stock seats.
Apologies in advance if already discussed but Iā€™d like to add heated and cooled functions during the reupholstering project.
Does information exist from a completed functional project?
-J
Install heated seat will be easy but cooled seat is going to be a problem

Finally getting around to installing the covers and running into some issues.

Hereā€™s a pic of the stock front seat back inner foam on top of the Katzkin foam. The stock material is like an open mesh for the cooling function but the Katzkin is just plain foam.

Also, there are no holes in the front seat backs for the two headrest posts, the magnetic button for the seat belt strap, or the handle in the back of the seat back that allows the rear passenger to release the seat back forward so they can exit the back seat.

At a dead stop with stock covers removed, awaiting instruction from the seller.

Sorry man that sucks. Are you sure you even got the right covers? Too many omissions to even believe it was a mistake. Maybe the foam as they didnā€™t realize you had heated/cooled seats but the rest have been standard on the S550 since day one.

So the seller confirms that even though it looks different, this is indeed Katzkinā€™s cooling-compatible foam. He also confirms that yes, you have to use the stock seats to makes templates out of paper and painterā€™s tape and cut all your own holes in the Katzkins. Sighā€¦ the job just got a lot harder and introduced a lot of room for error. I did find a YouTube from LMR that shows how they did it, that will help a lot.

Wait, you spend all that money and you need to cut the holes? Wow, maybe thatā€™s why when you order direct from Katzkin you have to use one of their installers.

My first thought exactly. Itā€™s not like these are one of a kind. Katzkin makes an awful lot of these and knows every dimension on those seats. It shouldnā€™t cost much more money for them to simply punch out a couple holes, itā€™s ridiculous. Oh well, time to suck it and start cutting.

Also, just noticed that the backs of the stock front covers are perforated to allow airflow into the little fan in the back of the seat, but the new covers are not perforated, wonder how air is supposed to get in there now.

This just doesn't even seem right. Cutting the new covers in several places, using a makeshift template, you have to mock up yourself?

If I did it, it's not that difficult. Just make SMALL holes and cuts. For the headrests make two small slits in an x pattern. No need to actually remove any leather.

My $250/set 'vinyl' replacement covers had all the holes precisely cut.

Not sure about the foam, but regarding the missing holes for the magnetic button, release handle and headrest, this install video from Leatherseats.com shows how their installer cuts these with the cover installed on the seat back. Thought you might find it helpful.
