Forgive the stupid question. When a tune is done with the CAI, is it normally keeping the same amount of safety net as a stock tune and just compensating for the additional flow or is it generally trying to get closer to the limit?
I'm not sure how someone "knows" the stock airbox is good, but they said that about the 11-14 too and we pick up 30+ RWHP on that one.

It's easy to test the power from a CAI, we do it every time we test our product.

Dyno the car stock 1-2 runs
Tune the car with the stock box 1-2 runs
Add JLT and JLT tune, KEEPING TIMING AND A/F the same as stock box runs and the difference is the power from the CAI only.

Typically the tune nets 10-15 and the CAI 12-15 or about 50/50.

No tune only will net 25-30, but add the CAI and it does every time

This is how we did it on out 2013 GT
It sounds like from your description your tune does what soupr asked. It merely accommodates the increased flow from the CAI and doesn't adjust timing.

They can tune the car to do whatever they want. In this case they attempted as close to an apples-to-apples comparison to show what their intake alone is capable of. After that if they want to go more aggressive with their tune, they can.

This can be debated back and forth, but at the end of the day the tune and intake work together to feed the engine, optimize air/fuel ratio, timing and take advantage of the increased power throughout the powerband. The tune calibrates the mass air flow curve and allows the PCM to adjust for the increased volume of air going into the engine. The tune also optimized timing, throttle response, variable cam settings, shift parameters (for automatics), etc. They both add throttle response, power, MPG and you shouldn't write either of them off.

The Bama Performance team has been messing with our 2015 GT on the dyno with the JLT intake! Excited to see it all come together!

Yes, what Chris said.
All tunes whether for the stock box or CAI will make hundreds if not thousands of changes to timing, fuel, drive by wire and so on to make the car run safe but add power

JLT CAI Install.

B.S. Come on really? Not enough room to close the air box? Maybe not enough time to be first out.

Under hood times are not as hot while moving? True...but still hot! Please...whatever the temps are, they aren't cold. That thing will be sucking in huge amounts of engine heat soak at WOT!

Nice looking under the hood dress up mod. It will really look nice with a color painted tube of your choice. Much better than the stock intake. But...

You guy's know this...It's all in the tune! I'd venture to say that just installing this CAI without a tune and the numbers would be the same if not worse.

The cai is only worth around 10hp with the tune. I dont even use mine anymore and instead use this with the stock airbox...picked up and feels (sotp) as my old jlt cai. Most of the restriction is in the tube and not the filter
!

air raid mit tube ftw!

I'm not sure what your getting so upset about, just do a little research or test on your own car.
Plug in a tuner and watch the IAT's drop when you go faster. Remember the fresh air inlet from the grille goes to the filter? ;)

1) We have been working on this for longer than you know, first to market was in the books a long time ago and no corners were cut to do so.
2) Fact: There isn't enough room to have material at the top center of the tube and weather stripe. (don't think so? I don't really care.)
3) Under hood temps at speed are 4-6 degrees above ambient with the stock box or an open filter/shield.

We prove our points vs internet arguing.
Please don't insult us or our testing, we take it very serious. We've been doing it for over 10 years and know what's what and a tune will never net you 30 RWHP on a 5.0, but a combo will ...

Thanks
Jay

But he knows better than you...*sarcasm*

Don't let some of these guys get to you. You guys put out a great product and can't wait to get my hands on a Kona Blue tube!

Have a first gen. JLT full length CAI on my '01 bullitt and love it. Get compliments on it everywhere. Never had it dynoed, but with an e-mail tune made a huge difference. (I know dyno tune is better, but I won the tune and tuner in a contest and the minimal gains aren't worth the cost)

I think something that gets lost in these conversations is that often times a CAI will actually flow more air (more cfm) than the stock air box and filter. That's the main reason I buy CAI, not for the decrease in temps but for the INCREASE in airflow that leads to greater gains with a tune and exhaust.

I will be looking into this JLT CAI. :)
