Well you can as the instructions above state, just wait 10 minutes and use a rag and go slowly, the coolant will still be hot. They have a long threaded section that will allow the pressure to drop safely whilst still retaining the cap securely.Yes, it is. And of course top it off to the max line when engine is COLD. Mine was actually below the min line when I bought it with 66 miles on the clock. It hasn't moved after I filled it up at the dealership (before firing up the engine, of course).
You NEVER, EVER open a cooling system when the engine is hot.
