That’s hood corrosion. As long as you’re still under warranty it will be covered by Ford. I believe the paint & corrosion warranty is 5 years.

Hoods are aluminum, they don’t rust. This is most likely oxidation corrosion which is white. Common issue with aluminum hoods when they don’t seal the seems properly before painting. Still covered though.

As mentioned, galvanic oxidation.
The reason that was explained to me by a Pro Level body shop is the Mustang aluminum panels are stamped in the same area as steel panels. This causes cross contamination of iron onto the aluminum.
The all aluminum F series truck panels are stamped in a dedicated all aluminum stamping plate which is why the F series isn’t experiencing the same type of galvanic corrosion/oxidation.

This hood rust / corrosion problem is somewhat common for the S550 Mustang.

Looks like I have a stop at the dealership this week to get this looked at ASAP. Thanks for the input!

Your vehicle should still be within the 5/60 Paint/Corrosion Warranty. Aluminum body panels are to be replaced, they will no longer repair them and the replacement is mandatory under the warranty provisions.

The warranty change came into effect in 2016 and perforation of the panel is no longer a prerequisite. So don’t let the Dealership tell you otherwise.

Attached is a supporting TSB.

It's the most recent one I could find on-line and covers 2000-2020 models.

From the 2022 Warranty Guide:

"3) Your vehicle’s body sheet metal panels are covered for an extended Corrosion Coverage Period, which lasts for five years, regardless of miles driven. The extended warranty coverage only applies if a body sheet metal panel becomes perforated due to corrosion during normal use due to a manufacturing defect in factory-supplied materials or factory workmanship. If aluminum body panels have corrosion or rust damage, and the damage is not the result of abnormal usage, vehicle accident, customer actions and/or extreme environmental conditions, the corrosion or rust damage repairs are covered for 5 years, unlimited miles. For damage caused by airborne material (environmental fallout) where there is no factory-related defect involved and therefore no warranty − our policy is to provide free repair of paint damage due to the airborne material for 12 months or 12,000 miles, whichever occurs first."

Make sure to check whole car out. These things usually occur in more than one spot

Check with your dealership it may be covered. It depends on whether or not there is a specific Ford policy that covers your model year. The hood on my 2015 was not covered by the policy that dealt with the 2016 - 2018 model years even though they were the same part numbers.

It’s been rectified so it will now be covered so long as you’re still under the paint & corrosion warranty
