The RPM should be around 1750- 1800 based on the difference in ratio, i.e. 3.73:1 vice 3.31:1.

As for the gas mileage thing, there are many variables to consider here:
1. What is your driving style... lead foot, average, light foot?
2. The drive ratio; the 3.73 should based on basic math get about 11% less gas mileage than the 3.31.
3. Although I doubt the outside diameter of the tires is much different between the base and the PP, there may be a slight advantage to the PP, but then again, the grippier tires will probably off set that...

So the numbers for an average driver with the PP should be around 13.5 City, and 22 city. One other thing to consider is altitude and fuel difference, every car I've ever owned in Colorado got better mileage than the EPA estimates, likely due to less HP developed because of fuel differences and air density.

GET the PP for the LIMITED SLIP DIFFERENTIAL if not for anything else. The standard diff is crap and should never be used on a V8 car whether you live where it rains, snows, track your car, or will go around a corner and punch the throttle.

The V8 & especially Ecoboost with the PP will feel peppier and more fun (like you have more power) around town and due to the really long 6th gear ratio, the final drive ratio will not really affect MPGs since it does not make a huge difference.

I think the larger brakes for the PP on either V8 or Ecoboost will visually look better and that as well as the LSD will make it more desirable for resale value.

I agree with others that the PP is not a compromised "Track Package" by any means, and don't feel there are any downsides other than the cost. But the car will be so much better for the performance driver or if you're stuck in snow with the LSD. I think its worth stretching for buying the PP either way.

If tire rotation is important to you, don't get the performance package.

Yea, to Norm's point it's not just about track use. I have avoided several accidents in my WRX because I had complete faith in the chassis and my capabilities with it. Would I have had the same outcome in a base Impreza or some of the other vehicles I've owned or used? Probably not. When I drive my little brother's SAAB 93T when I'm back home to put around town, there's a 0% chance I'm going to do anything but brake and brace for impact if the alternative was to punch the gas and maneuver out of the way of some idiot. There's just no confidence there.

I'm not saying it happens all the time, but I've learned enough about my own driving over my life that I put more faith in myself as a driver with a capable and confident platform than airbags/seat belts/other drivers. You can't count on another driver to correct, but sometimes you can pull a great handling car out of a shitty spot. To me it's happened with (probably) drunk drivers on the freeway trying to race their shitty ricer Hondas, it's happened on back roads with idiots on cell phones texting while in an s curve and it's happened in parking lots.

That, to me, is worth the PP alone, because I know I'll get that much more out of the car when I need to. Yea, I'm not going to win AutoX against a modded Z06 with it, but if it even gives me 10% more out of the car, that gives me peace of mind and also, because rececar. Of course I'm the type of 'spirited' driver that is comfortable finding the limits of a chassis (much to the chagrin of my GF and family dare they ride with me). I've seen the remnants of wrecked exotics and performance cars from people who aren't, so YMMV.
+1

My car will never see a track but I will use some aspect of the PP every day during my daily commute, primarily for :D but there will be times it will save my *$$.

The base Traction Lol LSD is very weak and within a few laps on track (or doughnuts), the LSD plates wear out and it becomes a useless open diff.

The Torsen LSD on the PPs are MUCH better and makes the PP worth it, even for those who will change the suspension any way. The PP brakes (other than pads and maybe a 2pc rotor for the hardcore) don't need to be upgraded for track use so I still feel the PP is a better package for both a daily driver and a car that will be modified for more track focus.

Get the V6, perhaps it's more than you really need. Get out of school, and out of debt sooner and then get GT350 or whatever you want then, when you are making the big $.

The clutch-type LSD on non-PP Mustangs is fine for anything but track use. I prefer it because it's better than a helical LSD on ice and for getting unstuck from snow banks.

Keep in mind that on rough pavement, potholes, driving over 4" ruts, etc., a stiffer suspension will be more likely to shake pieces lose and snap components. There's a reason Crown Vics and Town Cars were so popular for urban use.

I wouldn't drive the PP tires in the snow...
What snow? :p

I've looked at the v6 at the build and price but the lack of options kinda puts me off of it (just not completely).

Looking into the future, it will all depend on how much my Focus will be worth coming March and how much extra money I can reasonably save :)

agree with everyone; bigger brakes, cooling, handling etc. all actually better suited for the daily grind. that sold me on this package, along with the gauges!

For DD the pp is ok for me but it is hell of a bouncy ride. Whoever says the suspension is not stiff enough has to be on something lol. Stiffer it gets more bouncy it gets. I feel like riding a pony literally yeeeaaah haaaa all the way. Its not for everybody. I wonder how is the non pp on uneven non smooth roads. Cheers.
