Nothing was broken on mine. I just decided to remove them to declutter the rear of the engine bay and to gain easier access to the two bolts at the top of the transmission when removing and reinstalling it.Were your springs broken and causing them to stay open?
I could see where the potential for a failure to occur was present. See thread below.
