Recently took my car to shop for exhaust leak and when he ran the codes on the car i had a IMRC stuck open code on both banks but i didnt have a cel. I thought it was odd but thought maybe lund turned them off? But i pick up my car and as imdriving home i get the CEL and its the code for IMRC they are trying to charge me $550 to put on a lockout kit on my IMRC and get with lund to delete the code. Will that fix my issue or should i get a second opinion from my usual shop? The car is also idling a bit weird now. Takes a bit longer to drop under 1k and once its at 750-800 it will sometimes dip to about 600rpm. Any help is greatly appreciated ive attached a pic of the codes

You can put a lockout kit on yourself with basic hand tools.

The plastic shaft for the flaps probably broke. You would need to remove the intake manifold to be sure, but would need to anyway if you want to install the lockout kit.

You do have to have your tuner make adjustments in your tune if you want to lock them out, but if the shaft is broken the lockout kit wont help you depending on where the break is. You really need to remove the intake manifold and see if the shaft that connects to the linkage is broken. This is a somewhat common issue.

So if the shaft is broken id have to just get new valves and then put the lockout kit on?

The other possibility is that the vacuum supply to the vacuum pods is damaged or come off

If the shaft is broken, you need a new intake manifold

The car is running fine other than blips at idle and the code just says it may be stuck open

The removal and installation of the lockouts is very easy to do. I recommend doing them yourself. I used an MMR kit with some slight modifications to make it fit better. I had Lund turn off the IMRCs in my four existing tunes and they charged me $150. I did not, nor have I gotten a check engine light since the change a little over 2500 miles ago.

Yeah, so there is a spring that holds the flaps open. The code pops up when the PCM is trying to close or move the flaps but sees no movement in the flaps.

You should be able to drive it as normal, but it probably will stumble and hesitate off idle.

Were your springs broken and causing them to stay open?

Like I said, it depends on where the break is but yes the lockout kit will prevent the actuator from trying to move the flaps but you do need some tuning changes. The fact that you have codes for both banks would make me want to inspect the vacuum supply to the vacuum pods first. It is less likely that both sides have broken shafts.

Time to trade it in😂😂 i appreciate all the help man ill probably end up taking a look at it myself and putting in the lockout kit and contacting lund. $550 seems like a stretch
