My friend's Mustang got sandwiched by two police cars while parked and one of them dinged her rear quarter on the side....literally can't trust anyone lol
you just unlocked a horrible memory I had forgotten about, lol.

Picked my 2015 Gt up after they had the dash apart to fix the AC and went to outback down the road with a buddy. Parked about a space away from a cop, and noticed another cop pulling in but didn’t see where he parked. Went to leave and the front right was all dented in, but the outback camera didn’t catch anything. Wouldn’t surprise me one bit

I feel like there's two types of cops, the ones that have cars like us and usually let you get away with a LOT, or the types who absolutely hate car people and having to constantly "waste time" doing traffic enforcement and writing tickets. The latter is who I imagine can get petty when they see a fast or riced out car.

Luckily I feel like most cops are neutral or are more in the first camp, since I rarely have issues.

I think it was more of the issue that I, a young “baby faced” guy, stepped out of the car and they assumed mommy or daddy bought it for me and it irked them. I’m 32 but forever look 18.

I moved from NJ (metro NYC) to the Treasure Coast of FL a few years ago and came to be surprised that my insurance premiums went up. The reason for the increase was a big jump in the premium for coverage against uninsured drivers. So, it turns out that 1 in 4 drivers on the roads in Florida is uninsured!

Down here, I am seeing many more incidents of car break-ins and vandalism in public parking spaces. It seems that every couple weeks, or so, I leave my gym to find someone talking to the police about a break-in to their car. I always try to park close to the stores and/or in areas of good visibility, and I try to find parking end spots that provide for leaving a good amount of space from the next parking spot, to ensure against a careless door opening into my car.

Also down here, I am seeing a significantly higher number of accidents, and the running of red lights well after they changed, and absolutely crazy, fast, weaving in-and-out of traffic lanes, cutting it within a few feet of other cars, by people who clearly are not good drivers. It would not surprise me if these are the folks that make up the 1-in-4 uninsured driver population. I am extra vigilant when approaching intersections and u-turn lanes.

One also sees many abandoned cars on the sides of roads here. This was explained to me as being disabled cars, abandoned by their drivers who do not have the money to have their car towed and repaired.

In consequence of this increasingly hazardous world for people who value their cars , I made the sizable investment of a BlackVue DR900X-2CH IR dash cam with dual batteries to support parking mode, and their LTE connectivity module so that it continuously uploads video clips to a cloud account.

So far, by dash cam has captured nothing more interesting than my beautiful singing along to music, but it greatly increases my peace of mind to be able to catch some bastard who would break into my car, or someone who who would run a red light and t-bones me, and then lies that it was me that ran the red light.

I guess its a folly to expect people who lack self-respect to respect the lives and property of others.

Yeah man, people drive like total assholes down here, lol. Mainly kids in imports but you’ll have the occasional middle aged guy being driving like a dick for no reason.
I’ve never lived anywhere else but it’s interested that it’s different than up north.

As remarked in prior responses, many people have either lost, never had or were never taught about respecting other peoples property. You see it every day, with all kinds of social interactions. My guess is that it's always been a part of our culture, just these days, it continues to become a greater part with each passing day. Somehow, behaving badly doesn't seem to carry the cultural shame that it once used to.

The secret to keeping your Mustang dent free.
Drive a twenty-seven year old Crown Vic on all errands,
shopping, and to sports events. The sides are so dented
it looks like a golf ball. But the GT is pretty.

Yeah, but I didn’t work my ass off to get a $50k loan to let my car just sit there. You can keep anything new by not using it, but I got the mustang to enjoy everywhere I go and I get that it puts me at risk for more issues to have happen. Hell, you could take your car out once and get t boned by an idiot on their phone, or have an animal run out in front of you. my whole point is that people just don’t have respect for others anymore for them to enjoy what they worked hard for.

Can't trust anyone. Had one T-bone my new '89 LX 5.0 in a parking lot. I guess partially my fault since I set myself for it. Watched a cop changing lanes without looking and causing people to slam on brakes to keep him from hitting them. Low and behold, he turns into the same parking lot I was. He pulled into a spot and I stopped directly behind him and got out to chew him out. I barely was around my car when he threw it in reverse and just slammed into my passenger door. Like I said, I knew what kind of driver he was so....

I live in a semi large city and the reports show over 800 accidents per month and increasing.
With a population of around 400,000, there's a good chance of someone nailing you at any moment.
I don't like those odds.
