Another day, another story. I am very used to people always hating on these things, even before the "crowd killer" status that we have. I don't mind, personally. Most of the time I'll indulge in that joke, like telling my friends to take cover before I leave. Are people being polite when they smile and share excitement when I got this thing a year ago? Because it is the same people that say "Should've gotten a Camaro" or "The Challenger R/T is way more fun." Also, "The Mustang is the slowest and most boring car ever. Only girls like it." I'll admit, yeah, most of the reason I got the Mustang was because it cost less around my area and the popularity helps keep OEM prices lower, but it's supposed to be easy to drive. I didn't want to track a difficult to drive V8 car as my first FR (front engine, rear power) car. I'm 28 and trying to get the VA to pay for my MBA program, so I hope to move up in car tiers like when I finally got rid of my 2012 Civic Si. Definitely will be getting more track time in now that my state is allowing track days again.

Anyways! To the point: I get all this hate (even in bad taste) yet I have people always asking if they could drive it. I don't wanna be a dick about it and say "I thought you hated Fords?" Anyone else get this type of attention from friends and family?

Edit: Makes it easier when some ask and I then I get to say "Can you drive stick? "They'll say no, and I get to reply "That settles that." Actually had one guy at work say "Yeah I can!" He was 18 fresh out of high school. I said "Of you can turn it on, go right ahead." Me and some other guys watched him fail and cuss. People who saw him never touch the clutch pedal were laughing really hard at him. Kid didn't learn anything that day...

If you give me shit about my car, you're not driving it.

Other than close friends who are responsible drivers even stand a chance if they ask. Even still, I'd fully respect anyone's decision to keep their car to themselves no matter what make/model/condition it's in.

I get a lot of compliments from random people telling me how nice the car sounds, how good it looks, how clean I keep it, the color of the paint etc... I think most of the hate comes from the reliability associated with Fords and the drivers that get all "fast and furious" in traffic. I haven't had any issues with this one yet but my second mustang (04 GT) cost me about $8,000 in a single year just for repairs and maintenance and I gave up on it and surrendered the car and just took the hit. It was a real lemon, when I gave it up the transmission still needed a rebuild, the oil had metal flakes in in, and there was some weird electrical issue with the car where it would kill my alternators (3 in 1 year).

Er, no... also 28, for whatever it's worth. Even my neighbor, whom I've had several petty fights with, complimented my car and me for picking it. The worst I get is "I really don't like Ford/Mustangs but your car is really nice!" I had some 18 year old kid say my car is a POS while pulling up in his rusted out chevy pick up, but that doesn't really count. To the contrary, I often get thumbs up at stop lights and compliments at gas stations. I'm not a super social person so it's actually a bit annoying sometimes. I crossed paths with a gt350 owner that waved as he went by and I didn't wave back. I genuinely felt bad but it's really not my first instinct. Oh well.

I do have people ask to drive mine but I've had too many bad experiences with previous vehicles and letting other people drive them. My best friend tries to guilt me because I've driven his car but driving a subaru outback home from the bar, because said owner of the subaru got a bit too drunk, is hardly a joy ride. To that point, anyone I know, with a car I'd like to actually drive, doesn't ask. They hold the same opinion as I do.

Although I will have to say that the Camaro SS is probably better and easier at the track. I just wish it didn't have that cylinder deactivation crap. That, along with shutting off at stop lights, are my two most detested fuel saving practices.

In my experience, non-Ford car guys love to hate on Fords, especially Mustangs in general, but the Mustang almost always gets love from casual car guys or the general public. It's the same thing no matter what circle you're in. I'm a big whisky guy and to other whisky people Jack Daniels gets nothing but hate. However, it's loved by the general public. Reason is, it's the quintessential American whisky and it's easy fodder for people with shallow insults and baseless opinions. Same thing with the Mustang. Literally THE quintessential American pony car, etc etc etc.

Had a 21 year old friend from college say I could DD his car. He drank and then said he was fine. I kept asking for his keys and he said no. Wife and I waited for a ride. Wife cried because high heel shoes and cold weather don't mix. He said that he's offended and I'm a jerk. Now I got a road trip with that asshole next week.

I can relate to that response. Most of my friends are vodka and tequila people. I'm the bourbon guy. Didn't like Jack when I was 21. About a year ago I started to geniunely like it and at $18, it's a steal. I think it's because most of my friends still mix drinks like they were in high school so their pallet for neat whiskies is disgusting. I've been drinking neat without a chaser for 5 or 6 years now. What a difference.
Point is, I suppose I should just shrug off people's opinions who drive an economy car. I just really hate that "I am better than thou" mentality. I want to enjoy other car enthusiasts choices, but sometimes it's really hard with certain people.

I've never had a car criticized, where are you hanging out, and who with, where people rag on your car? Or is this a joke post?

Never, ever let it get to the point where you care what other people think about what you drive. Opinions and views are like a**holes - everyone has one.
Are these folks paying your payments (if you got any)? Are they paying your insurance? Do they really care what you drive? No.
Lots of haters out there, some just jealous you have a new car.
One will be forever playing a losing game trying to buy things to please others.
There are good cars from most any OEM. If one is not a brand loyalist, but a car enthusiast, they will objectively see what is good from all over. Every car has a distinct target audience. And, after that, every car can be modified and customized further, to the owner's preference.

Buy it for you. If you like it, and it's your money, drive what you love, and be damn proud of it.

Eh it happens. I caught shit at a cars and coffee in Denver last year from a group of total strangers. A bunch of little kids ran up to my car yelling "it's a Shelby! Omg a Shelby!" (It's not lol but whatever), then they yelled "rev it up!!", so I gave them a couple braps and next thing I know a group of people standing by their Mopars start yelling, "oh watch out homeboy gonna lose it and kill everybody!", followed by other random quips from them. I just shrugged it off, but I felt bad for the kids who clearly liked the car and by extension just got shit on by a group of "adults". Then this year I was at a night meet and I didn't even know Mexico racing was going on and wouldn't have participated if I did know, and group of people I parked next to loudly said (so I could hear), "yo don't let Mustang bro race tonight, he gonna get shit shut down after hitting the competition anyway". Like... oookaaayyy...
So yeah it happens, the car scene is getting really toxic lately in my opinion. Like I said though before, outside the car scene people love my car so I don't care.

Around here, nobody hates it, noboby likes it, nobody notices it, except Mustang owners. It might as well be a 5 year old Camry. Even the car guys in my family aren't interested in it.

But, relative invisibility is not all bad... no unwanted attention.

Bolt ons and a modest tune by a very well known tuner and it was burning 2 quarts of oil and barely reached 77k miles. Did some research and others ran into the same problem. Considerable amount. Like, 50% of those surveyed had 2 quarts of oil burning every 270 (more or less). This is why Honda of America only produced the K24Z7 motor for FOUR YEARS. Shortest Civic Gen ever... Anything 2011 and older is bullet proof.
