BG is really good rear dif oil, and I want to change to it soon. The engine oil I've been using is Pennzoil 5w30 "made from natural gas". The shop I use for lube changes has stated: 5w30 wont hurt the coyote and it's vvt cams. As to track use I've only ran at COTA with my Cyclone mustang, I can't wait to track this GT. As soon as I get SS brake lines & better pads. 5w20 is ok for the street and using 5w30 is fine for the track if your not a pro.

I had stainless lines for a couple track days, then one started leaking at the crimp fitting and I've been back on oem lines ever since and have zero issues with the stock lines.

I wasn't aware of the Ford Racing oil filter, does at have a larger capacity? I use Purolator One or Boss when I can find the Boss. Thank's for the "heads up".

ill use this to explain why i suggested it to stoli and answer your question.

The amsoil eao filters are very nice but ive never found any performance testing of how their filters flow (frpp delta p test pictured below) and at what psi they go into bypass. The ford racing 820 is your best choice followed by the fram ultra xg2. As far as the purolator id use the One over the boss. Ive seen some meh construction once cut open. In regards to Ones ive seen more tearing with media on used cut open for visual inspection. Typically this is on 10k or more plus oil changes. Since its been happening i cant in good conscious tell anyone to use Purolator. The tearing has happened on other filters they make as well.

frpp.jpg

The the frpp filter has its bypass located at the base by the threads. Which is how all ford OE filters are and is important. The filters designed this way goes into bypass, the bypassing oil is diverted before the filter element. On most aftermarket filters the bypass is in the bottom of the filter and the oil flows over/across the dirty side of the filter element before it is diverted. This may cause previously filtered dirt and debris that has built up to be pulled off the filter element and flowed into the oil passages of the motor.

From what i know amsoil is designed with the bypass at the top, not the base. I also have found zero flow testing, bypass psi or its psi burst strength. So if you're to get a filter like that with its bypass located opposite of OE get the fram ultra xg2 is flows damn near what ford racing filter is, is readily available at walmart (10 dollars), cheaper and you pay no shipping. It doesnt have as high of a bypass or burst strength its the only other filter id use other than maybe an M1 extended performance or OEM 820 filter

I at least know of all the xg2 specs and is also a 15k filter like EAO's. If you must use an Amsoil filter use Eao11. 820 filter styles flow more than the fl500 style. The ford racing can be used for 15k changes but itd cut it open after the first filter to make sure it held up well. Ive never done it. My mustangs dont see more than 3500 a year.

The research you have is exceptional. Thanks for the answer, I'll use your advise for my Coyote Red. This might qualify for a "sticky thread".

I was using amsoil filters and pureones before i found this out. I decided to do some filter research to see ig there could possibly be better. Things always progress so i figured why not. After doing some research this was what i managed to dig up. I also hated fram filters before this as well. Ive found the ultras to be wonderful filters for the money. I knew the ford oem 820 filter was also great fo the price as well but i prefered synthetic filter media

I want to break one more thing down. Some may wonder why not just use the OEM 820 filter?
A big thing it has over the standard 820 filter is that it has a much higher bypass rating. I dont know about everyone here but id rather filter my oil and the vast majority of the time. I can go 1/2 or 3/4 throttle and not have to give up being able to still filter the oil unlike the standard pressure 820 and still supply the oil flow required. Cars at cold start, filters goes into bypass as well, not with the Frpp though. Another strong reason for the frpp oil filter is its burst strength for those doing any racing.

An fl820s filter is not a high mileage filter. I wouldnt trust it not to tear. I wouldnt trust it not to tear after one year of being soaked in oil even if driven less than 5k a year with amsoil.

For those that dont care about any of the following stick with the fl820s. A filter living well over half its life in bypass in a performance orientated car thats driven that way. Those that dont care about burst strength. Those that dont care about any of the prior and dont go oil changes longer then 5k every 6 months

For those that want the two cheapest place to get the frpp filter ive found is the LevittownFordSuperCenter vendor on here. Or https://fordracingpartsbydonwood.co...-pans/fl820-hi-perf-oil-filter-cm-6731-fl820/

A lot of places will only sell it as cases of 12. Some places sell them individually. These two places will sell individual or by the case

Cheapest local place for everyone to get fl820s filters is walmart.

Cheapest local place for everyone to get fram ultra xg2 is walmart. Just open your filters to make sure someone didnt swap it with some cheap other filter from another box. It does happen, a lot. If you see your ultra filter buy more than one. The fram ultra filters in popular sizes are gaining fast popularity

Good info on the filters. Looks like just about anywhere you go it comes out ~$18 a filter when shipping gets factored in until you go for a case.

I got two from LevittownFordSuperCenter shipped for about 26 bucks. I was given a 5% off coupon

Great page in the thread and I had no clue about there being a better filter option. Never really thought about it until seeing it come up here. Thanks all!

Smart man  I have seen more track failures of SS lines than OEM for sure. The only real advantage of SS lines is abrasion resistance and with OEM line routing abrasion should not be an issue.

What oil temperature gauge do you recommend?
So many choices, now that the Autometer Gauge pods are available you can put what ever gauge strikes your fancy in there. I like mechanical gauges but electrics are just as good.
