I'm getting a power adder soon and I'm looking to see whats the power limit of the new 5.0, as far as I know we have a forged bottom end based around the laguna seca boss 302. I want to know what's the reliable limit with a stock motor and what I have to replace as I go up. I'm starting out with 650 and going to up it when I feel the need for more speed (650^850^1000). Thanks in advance. (Ford techs and Beefcake please but in.):coolphotos:

I know I'm not one of the experts, but the limit is somewhat subjective and variable depending on how much risk of failure you can tolerate, what power adder you're going to use, what fuel you're going to run, etc. There are certain numbers at which it's blindingly obvious you need certain modifications (such as you'd better have a damper and opg at 1000 whp), but other less extreme examples would be determined partly by your answers to the questions I put above.

I'm going with a 2.3l Tvs supercharger, and I would be using 91 (I dislike e85 for personal reasons). Where I stop knowing what to do is around 850 plus. I know at a certain point Methanol is to be considered as well as replacing the rods, pistons, and the oil pump gear. But at what point is the Factory parts considered risky and unreliable and what should be done at what stages...

Beefcake recommended that I stay around 7-725 tire with the opg and timing sprocket. Some are pushing well beyond that and holding up. Some have let go at less than that.

If you want 900-950 I think the minimum is block supports, h beam rods with good bolts, good set of forged Pistons with just a hone or .005 over, arp hardware throughout, valve seals and springs while its apart. I will probably go this route with a local machine shop.

Above that you need the big boy sleeves and a pro builder and more money. These blocks seem to be the weak link at this point. Livernois, mpr, rgr, and l&m are some of the popular choices.

91 will limit you to around 700. You will need race fuel or something alcohol based beyond that.

Would a fuel pump booster or upgraded fuel pump help this? Also would that be wheel or crank? (Also all input is appreciated. So thanks for any and all help and advice.)

All the hp numbers I listed were at the tire. You can only go so far with boost with our compression on 91 octane.

What do you have against e85 ? This is my third car with it and I love it. What's not to like about $1.69 per gallon race fuel ?

I had a diesel accident a while back and have a hard time breathing around certain fuels e85 happens to be one. I like the additional power plus it keeps your motor cooler and cleaner but the lungs can't handle it at times. Also you have some great advice, it's consistent with my personal research and told me some new things. I'm pretty sure I know what it is but what might opg's be?

Oil pump gears. I'm running boundary. Mmr and tss are the other options.

I'm pretty bad with acronyms sometimes. Thanks for the clarification. How much was the install on that? Or did you personally install?

Seems like most guys with simple power adders are safe around 700-750wheel. I will be doing the opg, crank gear, damper, and head cooling mod to be as safe as possible with the power coming from the basic Procharger setup. You start approaching 1000 and you'll need to do other things, or accept that you will eventually break something
