I ordered new Continental ECS to replace the Cup 2's. I heard there is a new or updated version of the tires. Does anyone have pictures of the difference in the new and old version or can shed some light on what I don't know? I don't want to get the old version and not match if I have to replaced one later. Thanks!

According to the website it just has improved specs like lap times, responsiveness and dry/wet braking.

Looks wise they are almost identical.

Some review on TireRack may shed some light as well. https://www.tirerack.com/tires/continental-extremecontact-sport-02

The old ones are also being phased from the looks of it so getting the updated version would be the way to go.

I have a hatred for Conti's, but I keep reading how great these are. I'm a huge fan of Michelin and planning to get PS4S's to replace the Cup 2's. Should I give the Conti's a chance?

I was leaning towards the ps4's too until talking with others and reading reviews and I came to the conclusion that it was worth saving $300 which I put towards another set of FP wheels.
In fact, I was planning to swap them out for ps4's after returning from the Mach1 track attack. After spending more time behind the wheel I now feel they are as good as the ps4's at least for the street driving I plan to do.

As far the Conti 02 cannot offer any advice as I have the Conti sport plus. Hope this helps!

Why the hate? The ECS is a phenomenal tire, right up there with the PS4S at a better price. BMW and AMG use them in their performance driving schools as well.

Don't be scared of Conti's, excellent tires and I was a Michelin person through and through. I'm running DWS year round given I'm in a pretty cold climate (NH). Have them on all my other vehicles too (diff tires, but still Conti).

My guess though is the Conti Extreme Contact Force (ECF) would be the more comparable tire to the Sport Cup 2 ? Conti is quite competitive. There's no mistaking that in the 200 tw zone where these two (ECF and Cup2) live.

I imagine it is. Michelin makes up for it with endurance imo, they are probably the best brand regarding mileage which negates the bit higher price. ECS are meant only for American market so we didn't get that option here sadly.

I have had a few sets of Conti's of various models and have always felt and deemed them similar to Pirelli - hard, slippery, and low mileage. That said, I'm a stickler for correct pressure and rotation (when able) of tires to both maximize the performance and longevity of the tire. I burned through a set of OEM Conti on my Edge ST in no time and there was no grip nor ride comfort compared to the Michelin's I have now on there. My wife went from her whatever's she had on her Audi to Michelin and her not being a car person even said 'something feels better' when she drove.

I'm die-hard BF Goodrich on trucks and Michelin on my cars. I suppose I could give the Conti's a shot; just don't want to get them and save a few bucks just to dislike 'em. I had one set of Vredestein back in the day on another Mustang I had and those were stellar!

Good to hear another vouch. I am still likely just to get the Michelin's, though if something happens and they're out of stock and I need need something right away, Conti will be my second choice, probably the ECS 02's.

I agree with your statement about endurance and the higher price point. Tires are the only thing between you and the road and I don't mind ever having the best.

I disposed of a set of PS4S rain tires because they got hard and lost traction at near full tread depth after 4 years of mostly being stored indoors.

this is the last time I used those tires. I lost by an incredible amount that day:

On a different car, the ECS started to show their age at 5 years of real use and much less tread depth. Prob 25k miles.

the ECS was always more predictable, the better rain tire and the better value IMO.

So it’s interesting when talking about endurance with Michelin. I’ve had the exact opposite experience. Michelin came standard on my wife’s SUV (we bought it brand new) and after 17,000 miles they were toast. Had a similar experience with a few of their all seasons on previous cars. Had a great experience with the ECS on my ‘16 S550 so switched my wife’s SUV over to Conti and they’ve held up much better as far as wear goes. Got another set of ECS for my ‘22 a couple months ago. The PS4S is a great tire no doubt, you can’t go wrong with either one in my opinion. I almost pulled the trigger on PS4S this time around because Michelin and Discount Tire had a really good promo back in September but I decided to stick with what I know and I really liked the ECS the first go around. If you really like Michelin, go with the PS4S. If you’re looking to try something new, the ECS is fantastic.

Wild how that happens, ain't it? Same here, had Conti's (I think ContiSport Contact's) on my Edge ST from Ford and I think they lasted about 16 or 18 thousand. I tossed on the same size Michelin Premier LTX and it rides better, is smoother, quieter, and is much more planted to the ground - especially in any kind of weather. I also now have 42,000 on the ST and they're literally still damn near new.

The Mach won't get driven much so I suppose I could try it out with the Conti's - I'm always down to give something a third or fourth try!

Haha yeah we all have our own and different experiences with these things. Hell, I may get a 3rd set of wheels during Black Friday and put some PS4S on them and give the ol Michelin Man another shot 😁
