Make sure the marks are facing the engine not the tire.

When you first add oil it is draining from the head down into the pain an will drip on the dip stick, that is why it is covered with oil when you remove it. You need to wait several minutes for all the oil to be down in the pan before checking.

FWIW, I never check the oil right after an oil change, no need to, you know what it takes and you know what you put in so why check it.

I see alot of people make this complaint and I'm sorry, I just don't get it. as said, pull the dipstick, wipe it, reinsert, pull it and read the level......done! and you do not fill the oil level according to what the dipstick reads on full change, you drain the oil, replace the filter, and fill with 8 quarts, check the level after running the motor and letting the oil settle, the reading you get is your full level, even if the oil shows a half quart low, you just filled it with 8 quarts, so you KNOW it's not low, not to be a dick, put this isn't rocket science

Sure you need to check it! If you are like me you change your oil while drunk so all or most of the new oil may have gone into the radiator or who knows where.

It's all in the direction you remove the dip stick. Turn the flat towards the engine and pull it from the front engine side of the strut tower brace. When you putt it out right it's readable every time and it comes out easier.
Interesting. I always pull it out towards the back. I will try pulling out from the front! Hope it works because i tried again this morning and again, oil everywhere.

You aren't the first person to pull from the back and complain about not being able to read the level. Pull from the front (engine side) and it works like a normal dip stick.

It's so much easier to read after the car has been sitting off for a while.

Pretty sure it's one quart dot to dot.

That's 1, the best way to overfill the crankcase by droppin in 8qts right away, and 2, just plain terrible advice.

If there's a group of people that can overcomplicate reading an oil level on a dipstick...
