I dropped my 2017 Mustang V6 because a metallic noise was coming from rear driver side.

I received a message stating that a spline of one of the nuts in the half shaft was loose and total repair was 249 because it won’t be under warranty.

My car is being repaired at the moment(I’m at work) but looking at the Ford website I see that axle shafts falls under the powertrain warranty!

My car is under 50k miles but has aftermarket wheels, tires and springs.

I sent a message to the service center about the warranty but this was the reply

“We are not replacing parts if we did it may be, it is just labor time and tightening bolts and things like that. which would not be covered Mr. Lewis. You also have after market components which may void certain things if that makes sense but as far as what we are doing it is only labor time. which is that price i quoted “

I had my water pump replaced at this dealership and they honored the warranty.

Sounds reasonable?

AM wheels, tires and springs means you're SOL.

Last i recall labor is covered under warranty. Call ford customer service. Wheels and springs have nothing to do with an axle shaft.

Well just from his message, they were not going to cover it because they "are not replacing parts". Like others have said, labor is abolutely covered under warrantry. Then he goes on to blame your aftermarket stuff. Dealers need to contact ford in order to approve warranty work. Sounds like he didn't even try and just wants your money instead. I would ask if they even tried to get it covered or you can always file a customer service claim. Unless the springs install went completely off course or you drive like an absolute maniac and there is visible wear and tear, it shouldn't have affected the half shaft.

I'd call customer service. I would not get the car until I did.

250, what is that 2 hrs labor to tighten a nut. Even if they replace the nut, which is what they are supposed to do, retail at my dealer for an axle nut is about 5 dollars.

Is that not a single use nut, are they not supposed to replace it if loosened?

My service manual says it is single use. Thats why I know the dealer retail price.

I work for Ford on the assembly line in oakville. I can tell you almost 90% of nuts and bolts for suspension and drive train are 1 time use. if our pneumatic tools fail to torque the nuts to an acceptable range. they are to be reversed off and thrown down a chute with a sensor. if the nut isn't thrown down the chute the pneumatic tools will not be able to torque a new nut until then. these axle nuts are pinched and are one time use if a ford dealer is just tightening the axle nut I would be a bit worried.

a lot the suspension bolts are torque to yield bolts. these bolts being installed the first time stretch during the initial torque for more clamping force. reusing these bolts could possibly break them and pretty much ruin the integrity of the bolt.
