DISCLAIMERS: TLDR is at the bottom. Sorry this is not meant to be a rant I just was trying to share my recent experiences and the feelings that led me to ask for help...
I have recently had to have my first experiences with dealer service dept lately and wanted to share and get other people, stories, opinions, comments, and most importantly HELP if possible.
I bought my 2016 Ecoboost Mustang about 10weeks ago, used CPO. With it I bout the ford triple care which has windshield and tire protections and I have ~15k on the odo (~6500 is from me :] ) so, still have plenty of the 3/36 warranty left.
This past week I got a nail in my rear passenger tire while I was out of town for work. I was luckily stopped at a scenic overlook, on the way back to my hotel for the evening, and starting the car back up when the low pressure warning came on. As I do not have a spare tire kit I followed the manual's instructions on the inflate/seal kit and it seemed to plug the hole but the manual set clear limitation on driving and as I was too scared to ruin my first nice car I followed them.
I took it to the closest ford dealer the following morning, to have it looked at and ideally repaired under the triple care warranty. I was told by the dealer that my tire already had one repair done to it (which I didn't see when I bought the car) so they couldn't do another (which I knew technically could be done but didn't question as I wanted to believe it was a shop policy since the service manager helping me was so friendly). He also informed me both my rear tires (but not my fronts) are low on tread but not quite at the marker. I actually measured the tread right before going to them and was seeing 4-5/32" at the lowest.(Yes, getting close I know). After I left and started thinking about it, I felt he was just trying to sell me 2 new tires which he would have to order and I would not have been around when he said he'd likely receive them anyway. I then proceeded to work for the day.
After work (~4) I went to a different ford dealership, who seemed legitimately busy, and they immediately suggested I go down the street to a local tire shop for the repair instead of sitting around waiting for them to maybe squeeze me in at the end of the day. I couldn't blame them as they did seem slammed, and just wanted the peace of mind so I did as they suggested. The tire shop did it (with only minor moaning about the "fix-a-flat" all over the inside of the tire) for $18 bucks which I considered well worth the peace of mind.
Thursday I headed home. After I got home around 3 I called the (quite large I believe as they bragged about it when I was buying the car) service department at the ford dealership where I bought the car. I have had the "blob" pony puddle light since I bought the car, and a small chip in my windshield since shortly after. I more recently noticed that I have a greasy stain on my engine block. I also was looking to get an oil change and have the general service done. The person I was talking to informed me the earliest they could do an oil change and fix the pony light was next week. They said they don't do any glass repair work ( but recommended some outside glass shop), and they said they were booked until the end of the month as far as someone to look at my engine.
Now I don't want this to be a rant but I will honestly say I am a bit frustrated and would really like any suggestions or help, if there is any to be had. I bought triple care for exactly theses issues but was not able to (easily) use it when I had a tire issue, even though I was still within the terms of it. I also am scared it will be equally difficult to use it with the windshield issue although I haven't called other dealers to check on the windshield issue. I will right after buying my car I set up an appointment at the same dealership I called to have the puddle light and windshield crack looked at and they didn't mention anything about not doing glass work. I also am a bit bothered that the dealer "couldn't fit me in" any time soon for what could be a big issue with my engine (so far it hasn't been though). I didn't pay a lot for my extra warranties but I did pay a fair price for the car and am trying to take care of it best I can.
I guess I am just wondering if this is the norm for having anything done that warranty is involved with? Also should I just cancel the triple care warranty? Does anyone have any recommendation on how I should proceed in the future with dealer service departments. For reference I have always only dealt with smaller shops or Firestone for my previous car maintenance needs and never had to wait more than a week for an appointment or had to fight to get a shop to do warranty work. I greatly appreciate any help or comments people have. Feel free to share stories although I wasn't looking to create a whiny thread.
TLDR: How long should I expect to have to wait to get a service appointment at dealerships, and what is the proper/best way to get work done under warranty.
