A small adjustable wrench on the end of the extension will work in a pinch. You are basically chasing the threads, not cutting fresh ones so once you get it started the going gets easier. Use some grease in the tap grooves and the shavings will stay in the tap grooves.

I disagree about using grease. Since you’re only chasing the threads you don’t my lube. Besides you would want what little chips that are cut to fall freely from the tap.

I disagree about using grease. Since you’re only chasing the threads you don’t my lube. Besides you would want what little chips that are cut to fall freely from the tap.
Not to mention you don't want any lube to throw off the high torque spec required. That said, I still put anti seize on my threads. My paint marks show that they aren't backing off.

I wonder if a small magnet on a stick would also pull out some chips.
