VA resident here. Can confirm, Virginia hates cars. Actually, 20 over is reckless, can lose license, or they can take you to jail on the spot. 95 South corridor is the most strict. You will lose everything down there.
    I never understand the attitude...like it's personal.

Thanks guys for all the responses attorney has it now and said he will get it taken care of my last ticket was 15 years ago. What really sucks is the guy in the other mustang needs to go through all this as well for just pulling onto a on ramp. Unfortunately I could not speak with him as the cop would not allow either of us out of the cars.

I guess we both should feel lucky in the fact that he did not arrest us and tow our cars!

You know what sucks is I have many friends who are cops but they all state that most highway patrols seem to have bad attitudes.

What? 95 South corridor where? If you're talking NOVA - I hate to break it to you, that's not VA - that's NJ south. It wasn't like that until the last 10-15 years or so - when NOVA became infested with people transplanting from more expensive Northern states.

I commute everyday on I-95 in a Mustang and routinely travel with flow of traffic at 70-78mph in a 60mph zone. State Patrol don't even bat an eye. Friend of mine is a VA State Trooper and even bitches about officers (State and County / City) driving their marked car at or below the limit during rush hour. He says people slow down of course, but it's stupid and it impedes traffic at the busiest times.

There's an invisible line somewhere around Spotsylvania country, heading North, where apparently everyone forgets how to drive. I did a 80 mile each way commute to NOVA for a year or so. In a car and on a sport bike. I will never forget a woman PASSING me at 80+ mph while putting on makeup in the visor mirror one morning. No thanks.

Yup! Got one last year...had to pay up big bucks for a lawyer, driving school, course etc.

If you speed and hurt and kill someone I'm all for jail, fines, etc. but VA is nothing more than an extortion state and a good majority (IMHO) of LE are law breaking, rights violating, overpaid pieces of sh!t anyway that are never held accountable themselves so FTP :D.

46.2-947. Violations committed within highway safety corridor.

I agree with the other comments that VA is just a money scam when it comes to cars. You buy a car, pay tax and then again on property tax. You don't get tax break on trade in.

    Maryland has its own problems.

I once had a Zinc yellow Escort and had a modded WS6 blow by me, the cop pulled me over accusing me of street racing. Yes.. my little 146hp car was street racing a modded 5.7L v8... he didn't bother trying to pull the WS6 over. Just saw me and hit the lights.

A number of years ago I was once cruising out of town heading on a trip with my wife with the cruise set on her Buick right on the speed limit. A big van came roaring right by me about 15 mph over just as a Highway Patrol topped a rise heading in the opposite direction. He apparently locked on that van but thought it was me as he wheeled across the medium and pulled us over. When he walked up and started the "Do you know why I pulled you . . ." As I handed him my license I launched in with a "Yes, because you clocked that big-ass van that came speeding around me and you thought it was this little Buick." And then my wife started in on him, telling him that I had the cruise control set and she looked over at the speedometer and I was going the speed limit - and on and on. He clearly knew something was up and took a step back, stared at us for a moment and then said wait here a minute. After running my license he came back and handed it to me and said "Have a nice day."

Either innocent or somewhat guilty, it's aggravating to get confused with another car. Good luck. I've had a few very minor infractions over the last 45 years and a not-guilty plea in court is always my defense no matter what the circumstances. Always get off with a few months probation, no fine, no points.

The majority of Mustang owners are idiots who end up wrecking their cars trying to show off.

That statement directly compares with yours. There are assholes in every occupation. I have friends who are LEO's...after hearing the stories of the way they are treated by people on a daily basis - I'm glad I didn't become a LEO.

For those that have been ticketed with the use of radar, be sure to note that radar cannot be "focused" at the distances they are typically used to check speeds (1/4 mile or less). They will ALWAYS report the speed of the largest object (most surface area facing the radar gun). The beam width of typical police radar equipment is 250' at a distance of 1000'.

This fact won't help you if you're nabbed out in the open, but if you're in a group of cars and you're not the largest one, there's no way the officer can prove the radar was "locked" on you unless he can visually determine that you were the fastest among the group. If he states this in court (which he will if you contest it), you'll likely lose the case anyway.

However, there may be times that this information is valuable, so I just wanted to throw it out there. Also, none of this applies to LIDAR - the beam is always aimed and focused on a particular vehicle.

These threads always amuse me. People....if you are just one mile over the speed limit you are "legally" speeding. Cops are granted discretion in enforcement of traffic laws and should have reasonable tolerance for some overage. It's usually the totality of circumstances that determines if a citation is issued (weather, traffic, continued acceleration, other behaviors....).Not calling OP a liar but there is more than one side to every story. You do admit accelerating to 90 mph. Look at that objectively from the cops perspective and ask would you be compelled to act if your job were enforcement of traffic laws and public safety.

As stated I am would be totally cool with the speeding ticket but he saw 2 mustangs both with racing stripes one car entering the freeway from right hand side and one car going from the left lane to right lane to exit he saw all of this in his rear view mirror as the ticket states and he estimated our speeds visually and came to the conclusion we were racing that is the issue not the speeding ticket I deserve a speeding ticket but not a reckless driving ticket for a speed contest that neither of us was in. That is the frustrating part, plus the guy had a total attitude and was not willing to listen to anything.

I have dash cams in all my cars, front and back windows. In my Raptor (my DD), I use my older dash cams in the side windows so I have coverage all around. Best damn security system and proof of idiots you can have.

Friend of mine that runs a landscaping business had a lady run a light and hit his whole rig, causing about $7K in damage. Since he didn't have a dash cam and there were no witnesses, he was on the hook for his damage even though it was her fault. Dashcam would have saved him the $7K.
