I wouldn't say that. They are light and reduce rotating unsprung mass. Form and function. All that would have to be done is change the length for the vehicles that have shorter stud length than the R.
They also gall of you look at them wrong and are great at producing galvanic corrosion. It's really silly to put this on your 3700# car to save a few grams.

If you use the recommended thread lubricant you'll have mitigated any potential galling as well as galvanic reactions due to material property differences. You then need to ensure you are adjusting your torque figure for the nuts. And while it may be silly in terms of weight savings compared to the overall weight of the vehicle, it is certainly a viable effort to reduce or minimize unsprung weight at the same time you add a wheel that is lighter than a given OE wheel. That said, I'm a fan of simple open ended steel nuts. To some they aren't the most aesthetically pleasing and for those there are solutions like T's.

It comes to what you like. Thats it. I think they are cool and worthwhile when they fit. The way they are being applied in some situations, they just don't look right.

Doesn't the ford GT have titanium lug nuts?

I dont think they are silly at all.

I can't imagine how much they want for TI lug nuts for the '20 GT at the parts counter...

LOL, this is funny. I used to do the same thing with my road bike (road cycling ) and I was buying all kinds of crazy parts, got my bike to 12 lbs. Finally I realized that maybe I should shed a few pounds instead of buying 200$ carbon fiber skewers to save 50 grams.

Over 200 sets on cars and none have galled. Apply anti-seize as recommended and you will be just fine.

What torque setting should we use?

Thanks, but I'll be just fine with Ford open back steel lug nuts.

We've been down the same road, figuratively, if not literally.

For track use, I go with MSI racing lug nuts. MSI makes exceptional stuff, lugs, studs, and other specialty parts for other people. Excellent quality.
