Well, it all starts with a problem. For a while now many of the GT350R owners switching to aftermarket wheels found themselves dealing with the extended front studs protruding out much further than the rear studs. For the R It all stems from the pad used on the OEM Carbon Fiber wheel. I suspect the front of the GT500 will also include extended studs to accommodate the carbon wheel design. The pad is much thicker up front and takes up the space from the extended stud. All aftermarket wheels use a thinner pad, so this is an issue for any enthusiast owner switching away from the OEM wheel. This also happens with GT500/GT350/S550 owners running extended front studs. When you swap to an aftermarket wheel, that stud requires you to run an open-ended lug nut. The end result is front and rear lug nuts that no longer sit at the same depth as OEM. Even from the factory the GT500 lug nuts sit deep inside the lug pocket, and at a different depth. For many it is aesthetically unappealing, and causes difficulty finding a lug nut to run front and rear.
Since I started with Signature Wheel I have had several customers asking about lug nut options for the extended studs on the R. As time went on it was discovered that in many situations the OEM lug nuts would distort the chrome cap, swell under heat, or had too large of a head to work on aftermarket wheel setups. The end result was the development of titanium lug nuts to solve these concerns. You can read in depth on all the benefits of the titanium, but the main points are the reduction in weight, corrosion resistance, increase in strength, and resilience to heat swelling.
What was developed is intended to be the last lug nut you will ever need. These Exhibitions Of Speed titanium lug nuts are specifically designed to solve all of the issues S550 enthusiasts have ever had. Specific lengths are used front and rear to allow the lug nuts to sit at the same depth. Open ends are employed to work with any brand M14 stud you plan to use on the car. A raised engagement point ensures you don't demolish the inside of you lug nut recess trying to access with a deep socket. Standard 19mm hex heads ensure proper clearance at the lug nut wall, and eliminate the need for any specialty sockets. A 50% reduction in weight makes sure you are totally racecar. Complete sets of short lug nuts can be special made for those seeking to run square wheel setups with spacers.
These lug nuts were specifically designed to work with our Signature Wheel. Nothing like these exist on the market for the S550. Much work from several awesome partners brought these to being because I love you guys, and nobody will ever love you like I do. These have also been shown to work will with other brand wheels, but you cant go putting ketchup on steak. Cost has been kept down to $430 shipped for these, and if you look around at other titanium brands you will see it is well placed in the market. We have had roughly 200 sets go out over the past 3 years and never had an issue. Street them, track them, off-road them, or use them to impress girls at the bar when you show how light your nuts are.
I build small batches (30-40 sets) approximately twice a year so these are fairly rare bids. More are built according to how many place 50% deposits to have them ordered. I am planning a new batch for March and they take about 60 days to complete. They are all raw titanium to keep costs down on small batch plating/coating, plus they are corrosion resistant. Some black caps are in development, but not quite ready for market.
If you have questions please ask, and you can also see the existing thread on them linked below in the GT350 section. If you are interested in the next batch please comment below or DM me your email address.
