Just to update the thread, drove the car again and something is definitely wrong with it. Not sure what it is but I just decided to walk away from it. It still has the wrench icon showing on the dash and it literally has no power in 5th-6th gear. We got out on the interstate and it seemed to run fine until I hit 5th gear. I decided to go to 6th and give it some gas and it just bogged down and didn't accelerate at all. I was probably going around 70-75 mph. We cut the drive short and I thanked the salesman for his time.

A wrench light means there's a live malfunction happening in the car, I believe with either the ignition, transmission (not applicable here), or throttle control system. That is not to be ignored. The other issue is the light in itself is not a CEL code. But still scan it because with the wrench light can also be concurrent with a CEL stored code. A flashing light means misfire.

If I remember correctly...
From experience, tiny little things can cause that wrench to come up. @nastang87xx is correct that it's related to those parts of the car, but small things can cause issues (such as wheel speed sensors, unplugged ride height sensor, etc.). The scanner should be able to tell you what is wrong.

But I wouldn't panic yet.

This sounds electrical to me. I'd get it scanned, see what the issue is. 5/6 gear problems have been related to the trans nut TSB as well.

Ok. If they allow me to do it, I'll take it to a Ford dealership and let them run a diagnostic on it to see what's going on. If it's been tuned that should show up right? I just wanna fully make sure that the warranty is still in tact.

Correct. The Ford dealer can check if it's been tuned

It could be a list of things; a bad knock sensor will show up as a wrench light. I know you didn't buy the car, but for those that have the Ford App; it tends to diagnose the CEL/Wrench lights relatively accurate from what I've seen.

@bigmixx

I know this says no codes but do the symptoms seem consistent with what you experienced?

Btw, thanks for the update :like:
That could be it. But if I remember correctly I don't think it was surging. More like it just wouldn't accelerate. Like it didn't have any power or something. I didn't stay in it long because I didn't want to cause damage so I just dropped back down to 4th and slowed down. Once we got off the interstate were took some back roads back to the dealership where the speed limit was around 45 mph so I just stayed in 4th.

I'm now waiting on the salesman to call me back. Told him I want to get it checked out by a Ford dealership. Guessing he has to run it up the chain. I'll keep you posted.

Hitting the gas in 6th at 70mph is, very underwhelming for sure. Hitting the gas in 5th at the same speed has minuscule pick up for sure. Need to drop into 3rd or 4th at that speed to let it rip ;-)
Seriously though, I have a question.
What happens if you buy from a dealership and unknowingly buy with an out of warranty tune? Probably depends on which state you‘re in.

Ok. I know it takes revs to get it in powerband but the car literally didn't respond. Just kind of made a little noise and didn't speed up at all.

As for the warrant that's a good question and is exactly why I want to make to sure it's still under warranty. I can almost guarantee if something happened after I bought it and it had been tuned before Ford wouldn't take care of the issue under warranty. Unless there was some way to prove It was tuned before I took possession of it.

Doubtful Ford would cover it no matter what, if it has been tuned.

Well, the car was sold so I didn't get to the bottom of what was going on with it. Hopefully whoever bought it does not have any issues with it. On to the next one. Thanks everyone for you advice and info.

That's because the car is sitting at 2k RPM's at 75-80 in 6th. Scary part is that once you get past 3k-3500 in 6th, she's going to wake back up and make you shit your seat. I personally haven't done it yet since it's hard to find somewhere safe to go 160 mph lol

I would almost garuntee the dealership cleared the wrench code and never said anything about it to the guy who ended up buying it.

I wouldn't doubt it either.
