Do you mean the intake tube? If so its part KR3Z-9B659-B but this is not included with the lid kit as its not a direct fit on the throttle body side

- Benny
I meant the inlet duct. The one I have is squared on the bottom but the tray is rounded.

So unfortunately the GT500 lid does not fit the GT350 airbox in a way that wouldn't require major modifications. It's almost as if Ford changed just enough of it to make sure it wouldn't work.

Starting off the GT500 lid is taller in the back corner and does not sit flat and leaves a gap. You would have to modify the intake tube opening and lose one of the mounting points for it in the process or add a strip of insulation to close the gap.

Second, the main holes that hold down the lid are just slightly off. This could be fixed by trimming the tabs on the GT350 box and re drilling the holes but wouldn't fix the first problem. Also I'm not sure there would be enough meat to secure it with the second hole as it is quite close.

Lastly the lid is just a little bit smaller and does not come flush to the edge leaving another gap. Also due to the shape the gt350 "pre filter" does not fit in such a way that will not leave a gap to let hot air in.

Overall, could it work, yes. But it would not work unless both the GT350 airbox and GT500 lid is modified and even then it probably would still let hot engine bay air in and the whole point of this is to try and stop that as much as possible. Also it would be a tedious process of trial and error to make sure the fit is just right and I was looking for a more simple solution that anyone could do relatively easily.

Looks like I'm off to order at GT500 airbox. I'll test fit that when it shows up to see if it will just bolt right down or if that will require modification to be secured in place. I know it will require the airbox inlet from the Bullitt to work with 18+ which I already have on order. I will most likely start a new thread with a writeup and link it in here. I also have to install my GT350 mani and Bullitt TB as well as get re tuned to see the effects but in the end I think it will be worth it.

Sure an aftermarket intake would be cheaper but I enjoy the process of experimenting and this should allow me to run a closed box with E85 and a flex tune as it shouldn't cause any problems with the MAF scaling.
do you know if the gt500 box would work with a power pack 2 from ford and tune for 15-17? I have the kit installed and thought I could just put the lid on but it looks like I can’t. Or I would do a Mach 1/bullit seal top if I ever found one.

I am not sure. I know Archetype Racing made a cover for the gt350 box but I am not sure if they do anymore.

yea I’ve seen a couple of them. But not worth the $350-$400. When I could get a whole oem kit for less than $200 and just sell my box

Get some plexi glass or thick card board and make your own cover.

The GT500 airbox only solves the high IAT issue. No improvement over performance, but I believe everyone would understand that.
  • With the stock Mustang GT setup, I would see 5-10 degrees above ambient. All day, everyday
  • The FPP2 setup with the open GT350 airbox saw around 20 degrees at red lights. Moving, even in traffic, and it would drop fast and be around 10 degrees above. Saw 120 often, didn't impact cylinder temps, but why have my girl breathe all that hot air
  • The FPP2 setup, with the GT500 airbox is very new to me, but it seems back down to close to stock. Waiting at lights doesn't make it raise much, and nothing like the open airbox. I saw temps raise slow, but I believe it is the thickness of the plastic.

Like I said, it is new, and I'm driving a bit this week. I'm also heading to a meet this week, so I'll get some better numbers and report back. But I think this is a better option.
Hope this helps. Let me know
Also, I would think keeping water out of filter as well. no?

I installed the GT500 airbox kit from Levittown. I figured I'd post up here to show more pix of the install and I have the perfect solution to seal the smaller GT350 MAF tube to the larger opening in the GT500 airbox.

The heat shielding is a aluminum backed fiberglass that I got from DEI. I'm sure it will reduce my IATs to below freezing even in summer. The foam seal I used on the airbox to seal up the MAF tube is part number 1601N122 from McMaster Carr. It's just a multipurpose Neoprene foam with an adhesive backing.

I ASSume it's GT350? It was part of the Ford Performance Power Pack Level 2 kit, which I believe is GT350 sourced equipment.

yes, it would keep the filter protected from water. And you could always get those water sock things to put around the filter for an added bit. But I don't think you'll need it.

2 QUESTIONS -->
So if i buy the Levittown GT500 kit for my 2023 MACH 1, which air filter do i use? GT500 or Mach 1...

And what rubber insulation & size is best to fill that small gap from MACH 1's rubber air elbow? (Goes from TB to airbox)
Thanks Anthony

So bit of an update. I got the parts today. Did a dry fit of the GT500 airbox and lid and it fits with no issue. Was kind of a PITA to get in with the intake tube, sound tube, and engine cover on (all of which will be removed if doing a GT350 intake manifold and the sound tube will be removed if doing a GT350 intake.)

It fits great. You can also use the mounting hardware and grommets from the factory 18+ air box but I will include the part numbers below incase you want a separate set to keep those with the stock air box. Also they are a little bit of a pain to remove by hand but a flat head gets them out quick

It looks as though it will attach to the front air inlet from the grille as well using the Bullitt tube though I was not able to confirm as I left that part at home by mistake. Also getting it in there with it attached would definitely require removing the intake tube and engine cover. (I have a PP2 and would have to remove the strut tower brace to do this and I was just doing a quick dry fit.)

It will also fit under the Engine cover with no issue if you are only doing a GT350 intake.

Note that this is the stock GT intake tube, The GT350's comes down more and at a slight angle.

Also there are no previsions on the GT500 airbox for the clip that holds the MAF sensor ware in place but should be able to get away with drilling a small hole in this support webbing marked by the red dot. (Just an approximate location.)

20210819_220519.jpg

The pre filter might need to be glued into place or heated up and shaped as it forms a gap by the opening. The top gap shouldn't be an issue once installed as the lid sandwiches it in place up against the rad support bar.

**EDIT** This goes on before the airbox tray goes in and locates in a notch in the body and seals up against the outside of the box.

The stud bolts for the GT350 hood seal can not be used with the threaded clips from the GT500 tray. They are too big to fit the proper way and too short to bolt down if flipped to use the smaller threading. They work if flipped on the outer most holes but are not long enough to tighten down around the intake tube. However the clips from the GT350 tray can be put on and you can use the stud bolts then.

**EDIT** I ordered the body mount threaded clips and bolts to secure the airbox to the body and planned to use the ones from the GT350 airbox and forgot. It just so happens that they came in packs of 4 when ordering from the Ford site.

Ford has bolts with a captive washer that come in a pack of 4 that fit the threaded spring clips and I will list the part numbers below.

20210819_224850.jpg

There is about a 1/4" gap around the intake tube that will be need to be filled with a foam strip or rubber weather stripping. I suggest to get the really squishy kind with adhesive backing in 1/2" thickness and apply it to the tray and lid and let it squish down.

which air filter are you going with GT500 or MACH 1???
THANKS, aNTHONY
