EVAP canister.what is the black box under the spare tire well?
yes that is the fuel tank. Also, are the two black plastic things just in front of the rear suspension the fuel tank?
The link was very helpful, thanks. The box contains an h-pipe.
Here is an article from AmericanMuscle explaining the gas flow and advantages to each crossover type: http://www.americanmuscle.com/mustang-h-pipes-vs-x-pipes.html
where?A few bits with surface rust at the back.
On the axle companion flange, on the CV joint tulips, etc. Its a light surface rust, to be expected on raw steel parts that are exposed to the moisture...where?
I mentioned previously that the undertray compartment likely swings down after removing attachment hardware, as this is how it works on the current GT cars. It's hard to see the relative position of the filter, but I assume access to it would have been taken into account during the design. Thanks for the pic of that front air dam. I can already see that I'll probably cut a hole for the oil filter to come down through that air dam, and fabricate a sheet aluminum access panel to cover the hole back up with only 3 or 4 screws.
That center section looks beefy, like beat the crap out of it beefyThat also shows us that the iron axle carrier is painted black, like the axles in the later S197 cars were - if they painted it just for show, there wouldn't be other rusty bits nearby. So, iron gets black paint, aluminum is left as-cast. That makes it easy to spot the difference...
Beeeefcake! That center section looks beefy, like beat the crap out of it beefy
Sorry but I don't know how to show just the picture of the S550 undercarriage but I have a question.
Pardon my ignorance if this is a stupid question.
On the exhaust system, it goes dual exhaust and thru dual catalytic converters then into what appears to be a single something at about the middle of the underside.
After the "box" there are dual tailpipes which go to dual mufflers (or maybe resonators).
So, what is the box that has two inlets and two outlets?
Some sort of single chamber that combines the exhaust gasses before splitting it back into dual exhausts?
Or is it just some sort of cover and the inside stays as two separate exhaust pipes?
The closest I have seen to that is the X-pipe.
