Twenty months ago I bought a 3 year old low mileage V6. Never drove a GT. I just wanted a relatively low cost daily commuter that looked good and was a lot more fun to drive than the minivans, SUVs, and sedans I had been driving the past 25 years. I shopped used Ecoboosts, too, but I was wary of reliability and what might have been done to them before they were traded in. (In my subconscious mind I probably knew if I test drove a GT I would want it and spend more money for it, lol.)
I liked my V6 Mustang so much I became more of an enthusiast. I did some mods (exhaust, suspension, wheels/tires). However, I soon discovered that most enthusiasts, at least in my area, drive GTs. I have participated in many meets and cruises usually being the only V6 or Ecoboost there. After being around GTs so often, I decided I WANTED ONE. I pulled the trigger on Memorial Day and now own a '19 GT 400a A10.
Do I regret getting the V6? No. It was a great car and I had fun making it my own. It was perfect for what I originally intended, but as I interacted more with GT owners I realized I was missing the full Mustang experience. If I had known what I do now, I probably would have bought a GT from the beginning.
So I absolutely agree everyone should drive both before deciding.
