My 2018 GT consumed about 1/2 qt of oil per 3,000 miles.

That’s about 1/6 qt per 1,000 miles.

3,500 miles on this oil change, and I have lost maybe 1/4qt at the most. I'll have a better measurement when I do the oil change.

How does one measure a 1/4 or 1/2 a quart on the dipstick?

how much you take out vs how much you put in divided by how many thousands you drove since your last oil change

for example if you take out 7qts but put in 8qts and it was 4k miles since your last oil change you consumed 1/4qt per 1000 miles

How do you account for what’s in the filter and oil cooler? I’ve never measured my old oil. Interesting

I have a Ford Performance catch can which grabs some oil also.

In my case, I found that about 300ml Ceratec bottle being roughly 10oz, it moved the mark up about 1/8" on the dipstick in the XXXX band. Well, it's just about back to where it was after 3,500 miles of driving. So roughly 8oz of loss so far. I'll know even more accurately when I dump the old oil back into the original bottles when I change the oil.

1/4 to 1/2 qt in 3500-4000 miles regularly. I drive it pretty hard, including on track/autocross.

That brings up an interesting question...what does oil in a catch can indicate as far as engine health or driving environment or style of driving?
For those who don't have a catch can it just goes out the tailpipe. Do oil vapors escaping the crankcase mean something specific? A tell tale sign of something wrong? Or just normal.

Breaking out the graduated cylinder? Now don't spill any ....and leave that drain plug off for a good bit on a hot engine :)
Condor do you employ a catch can on your car?

No, I don't have a catch can yet. Trust me, if you knew my level of OCD, a garduated cylinder is not outside my reasoning. LOL

Haaaa
My guess would be you could add a fresh 10 quarts, start it, run till operating temp is hit and drain. You won't get the same 10 quart measurement.

It's 1 quart between the two holes in the dipstick. Need to know where the level is hot after an oil change to establish the baseline level. Check it hot 15 min after shutdown, and determine where the level is. Always check it in the same level spot - ie, in the garage for consistency. If it's 3/4 the way up from the bottom hole then it's 1/4 qt down. If it's 1/2 way up from the bottom hole then it's 1/2 qt down, etc.

Forget trying to measure what comes out ... too many variables. Trust the dipstick. I've verified it's accurate.

Typically driving harder and higher RPM will cause more piston ring blow-by which will result in more oil in the catch-can. If there's a lot of oil in the catch can from driving around mellow all the time then I'd say the rings probably aren't sealing real well.

What's strange is some 2018+ guys with catch-cans have reported metallic particles in their catch-cans ... which is very strange and probably means something not good is happening inside the engine.

I heard a reputable coyote builder say the coyote suffers from a fair amount of cast flash and it can have a tendency to make is way around the motor....thought that might be a clue to some of those sightings in the catch cans and etc...
