Gen 3 modding questions.

So I came from 2 different s197 GT500s and just bought a 2019 10r80 car. Love it! Decently fast due to the 10r. I’m very torn on doing a drop in filter and e85r tune to start with….possibly some minor rear suspension work and nittos. On the other hand I’ve come dangerously close to buying an Ess kit last week. My reservations are I don’t go to the track and I don’t go looking for street races. I just want a nice 2 second hard pull on an on ramp or open street….for those of you that have a Gen 2 or 3 did the e85 tune satisfy you to the point where you left it at that? I also want to steer clear of headers because of cost/hp and I don’t trust o2 spacers will keep cel off for emissions. Thanks in advance for any mental counseling!

when I bought my 2020 GT I got it with all the bells and whistles because I swore to myself I wouldn’t mod it. It now has the steeda catalog in the rear, mgw shifter, P6GR wheels, and a vortech awaiting shipment. I thought the e85 tune would “ease” my mod itch but alas, it didn’t.

I wasn't planning on boosting my 21' until years after. What is leading more towards boost is getting it tuned. Feels so much better now after the tune, it only made me want to go much faster. I had a Whippled S197 before, but the 373s & 6 speed made it impossible to do a launch. Told myself I would not boost again. 10r80 made me change my mind. Sadly I'm too broke to boost. Every time I get close to doing so, life has different plans for me lol.

To answer your question OP, no. I went that path (E85r tune and filer) and did not notice a large "seat of the pants" increase in power. Now... the car did trap 6mph faster in the 1/4 indicating there was in fact a power increase, but it was hard to "feel".

Car now has twin turbos making over 900whp so all is now well haha.

CAI and cat back with e85 is solid and definitely a lot of fun. Alot better than stock that's for sure.

If you're worried E85 won't be enough, just go ESS WITH E85 and enjoy the monstrous amounts of power.

My only complaint about E85 personally is that the range is doodoo. You'll be filling up...a lot.

I recommend doing all of the mods that you plan to do which will affect air flow (headers, CAI, x or h pipe, axle back, throttle body, cams, etc.) before you tune, so that you don’t have to keep paying for tune revisions.

I would save yourself the headache and just do the ESS.

You will enjoy the Lund E85R tune for one day, and then you will get used to it.

ESS G3X, 120mm pulley, and I would get some free flowing exhaust just for safety, but you will be perfectly content for a while with 650whp.

Tell me about it getting 10 mpg on vmp blower e85 headers putting out 830whp welds wheels with nitro r2 car hooks

E85 tune will satisfy you, until it doesn't. If your already on the fence just boost it.

I bought my 2015 and the first mod was a tune. Second mod was a paxton kit w/ injectors and a better intake manifold at the same time. Personally, I would do it my way, unless you have money for the supercharger kit first; then obviously do that and skip wasting money on the first tune

It doesn't matter if you tune it for 93 or e85, you'll wanna go boost eventually. Centris are great on a daily and the stock exhaust is fine.

I found E85 tune to be a huge upgrade for ~$700
Car pulls much harder and most importantly gives you way more low end torque.

Boost!! Boost!!! Boost!! An A10 car and a centri are made for each other. If you are truly considering it, just buy once, cry once. Get the ESS and some ID1050x's you'll LOVE it!!
