Hey all, looking at buying a 2015+ GT here in a bit once I sell my Jeep. I'm wondering from yall, what are the pro's and cons of the gen 2 cars vs gen 3 cars. I'm looking at premium GT's with an auto trans and performance pack if I can find one. Really just looking for a daily/cruiser that will be more comfortable than my jeep. I'll probably keep mods to a minimum (exhaust, tune, cosmetic, maybe suspension) since it will be a daily.

From what I understand that the gen 2's came with the 6 speed, port only injection where the gen 3's get the 10 speed, port+direct injection, and a little more displacement and hp.

I'm noticing there's usually about a 5-10k price increase between 15-17 cars and 18+ cars and I want to know if the extra 4 speeds and bump in horsepower is really worth it. Also any additional changes I may be overlooking

If you are just doing light mods and and want an auto premium performance pack you gotta go Gen 3 IMO.

I loved my 2016 GT. Great fun car and the 6R80 6 speed auto is helluva tough transmission. I drove the 2019 10R80, and I hated driving it any way but full throttle. Around town it just sucked.

15-17s didn't come in that combo, you have to get the manual with the peformance pack. The only exception to that rule is the 2015 50th anniversary package with you can get with an auto and performance pack.

For a daily driver, no it's not really that big of a difference between Gen 2s and Gen 3s. All out performance and/or track driving...maybe, just depends on your end goals.

I'm seeing this tears later but I was just wondering if you ever got a GT? I have a Gen 2 Manual PP1 and I love it.. No regrets but I wanted a manual. Anyway for a lightly Mod'ed car for daily use, I'd do a gen 3 in that case, But honestly it really doesn't matter. The 6R80 is a great auto proven reliable and you will have way less issues with that vs the 10 speed. And truth be told the reason a lot of 10 speed owners trade their GT's in is because of the 10 speed so just keep that in mind.

The 15-17 with the 6 speed auto is the way to go. And the engine has slightly lower compression in case you are going to supercharge it later. I have a 2017 6 speed auto GT vert and I targeted buying it on purpose for the reasons I stated and because the 10 speed auto has been a problem. The 6 speed auto is tried and true
